The senior derivatives accountant is part of a team responsible for the administration and accounting of derivative contracts. The global derivatives portfolio consists of $23.6 billion notional value. On a daily basis, they must ensure that all transactions are processed accurately and in a timely manner. On a monthly and quarterly basis, they must assemble and analyze data, and assist in the preparation and review of reports for financial, regulatory and management reporting purposes. The senior derivatives accountant is also expected to play a major role in derivatives department projects.
Prepare and review reporting for the global derivative portfolio, including Canada, US and European operations.
Reporting requirements include internal and external financial reporting, OSFI, the Chief Risk Officer, Senior Management and the Board of Directors.
Provide guidance, coaching and leadership to the Derivatives Administration team by ensuring timely processing of derivative income, as well as purchases/unwinds/terminations of derivative transactions.
Assist in development and implementation of business/system and operational improvements.
Act as a liaison between Derivatives Administration and the front office traders, internal audit, external audit, system vendors, investment systems, legal and tax.
Participate in day-to-day operations of the Derivatives Administration department by reviewing reconciliations, reports, and accounting entries, and ensuring that internal controls are in place and followed.
Qualifications and Competencies:
Post-secondary degree or equivalent, with four years of work experience.
Professional accounting designation (CA, CMA or CGA). Consideration will be given to those working towards a recognized Canadian accounting designation.
Strong mathematical, analytical and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated attention to detail.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong organizational skills with an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously often with scheduled deadlines.
Strong computer skills especially in Excel, Word and Outlook. Must be able to develop and apply application knowledge of computer based financial systems.
Ability to work in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment.
High energy and entrepreneurial attitude.
Work experience in a financial setting and/or related experience with Derivatives would be a definite asset.
Completion of the Canadian Securities Course and/or knowledge of investment accounting would be considered an asset.
