The Great Blue Heron Casino is currently looking for 8 part time -1 year contract Surveillance Operators with the potential to go permanent.

To protect monies, property and reputation through constant observation of all gaming areas as well as, video and audio recording equipment. To report activities, incidents or discrepancies that concern the security and welfare of Great Blue Heron Casino that could result in the loss of corporate assets.


The responsibilities outlined below are subject to established policies and are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this classification. This is not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties required of personnel in this position:

  • Promote the values of the Great Blue Heron Cultural Compass by example at all times and guide staff in adopting these values as a way of operating daily at the Great Blue Heron Casino
  • Observe all casino games, assigned areas and employees’ appearance and performance with regard to adherence to department procedures
  • Acquire and maintain a complete knowledge and proficiency in all theft and cheating methods. Report any suspicions, attempts or incidents of cheating or theft by guests or employees to the Surveillance Shift Manager
  • Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge and proficiency in the operation of video monitor console equipment, related logging procedures and location of cameras
  • Become familiar with the current list of undesirables and cheats maintained by the Surveillance/Security Departments; be alert and report any such individuals on the gaming floor to the Surveillance Shift Manager
  • Report any safety hazards, cleaning or maintenance problems in any area of the casino specifically in your work area to the Surveillance Shift Manager
  • Report methods and manner of improving existing policies, procedures and practices as they pertain to the safety and efficiency of employees, guests and company funds/property
  • Prepare Surveillance Special Reports as required in a complete, factual and legible manner
  • Testify in a court of law as a witness for the Great Blue Heron Casino in any gaming or criminal matter observed
  • Safeguard all confidential information and ensure that Surveillance Department and gaming activities are not discussed with anyone outside of the Surveillance Department, except as authorized by the Surveillance Manager or as required by law
  • Strive to maintain anonymity of self and others in the Surveillance Department. Report any personal circumstances that may pose a conflict of interest or hamper credibility to the Surveillance Shift Manager
  • It is required that each employee uphold and maintain the highest standards regarding honesty and integrity at all times
  • Exhibit exemplary conduct
  • Brief incoming staff that is relieving you of your duties
  • To report to work 10 minutes prior to the start of shift prepared to commence briefing
  • Maintain current knowledge of all policies and changes made to these policies. Be prepared to be tested as required by management and perform the tasks to a high degree of proficiency
  • Complete all forms, logs and reports with a complete list of relevant details in a manner which conforms to strict accuracy standards
  • Investigate all losses as directed
  • To perform other duties as directed by the Surveillance Manager or Surveillance Shift Manager as assigned


Education and Experience:

  • Law and Security or related field diploma or equivalent work experience
  • Show initiative and desire in learning and understanding other roles and responsibilities in the surveillance room
  • To attend an initial training course to learn specific job required knowledge and pass this course at managements discretion
  • To accept further training as necessary
  • Demonstrate proficient knowledge and skill using computers

Knowledge/Skills and Abilities :

  • Good visual activity with both eyes corrected to 20/20. Absence of color or night blindness that could impair the ability to observe accurately, whether through personal observation or the use of video surveillance equipment
  • Any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to write, read, type and speak the English language sufficiently to understand instruction, record information and communicate in a timely, accurate and professional manner
  • Ability to grasp, bend, stoop (to floor level), reach (to six feet), kneel crouch, lift and/or carry, or otherwise move supplies/equipment weighing 40 lbs., as required
  • Ability to follow directions in friendly and professional manner
  • Ability to perform tasks and duties effectively and safely within prescribed time limits
  • Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with company and departmental policies and procedures
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with fellow employees and management as part of a team
  • Excellent customer service skills in order maintain a good rapport with customers and employees
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure in a fast paced environment
