The Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment, Forest Service Branch is currently recruiting for a Resource Data Technician in the Prince Albert office. If you are a highly motivated, proactive, self-directed, analytical individual, this position will be of interest to you.

Reporting to the Forest Inventory Specialist, this position will provide technical expertise in the management of a wide range of digital forest ecosystem data including geo-spatial data and field survey data that support forest ecosystem modeling and planning. The Resource Data Technician will contribute to the development of data standards and data management protocols for the Forest Service, liaise with a wide variety of internal and external clients to facilitate timely and efficient data receipt, assess and manage large and comprehensive data sets, and provide technical support for field survey equipment including GPS units, data recorders, tablets and their associated applications.

A strong understanding of, and experience working with, Geographic Information Systems supporting the management of renewable resources is required. Experience working with an enterprise database such as Oracle is required. You must be able to communicate complex technical topics to non-technical staff and clients.

Familiarity with the principles of sustainable forest management is required.

Typically, the knowledge required for this position would be acquired through formal education including a 2-year technical diploma or undergraduate degree in natural resource sciences, supplemented by a diploma in Geographic Information Systems. Related work experience in Geographic Information Systems and the use of field data recorders is required.
