The Ministry of Justice requires a motivated, self-confident and client-service oriented individual to fill a Probation Officer/Community Youth Worker position in Community Corrections, Melfort.

As part of Community Corrections, job duties may include both Youth and/or Adult clients. The identified case management goals are to reduce the risk of re-offending behaviors and to safely manage offenders’ behavior in the community through the incorporation of a formalized, evidence-based risk assessment, while at the same time holding the offender accountable for criminal behavior through effective programming. Emphasis has been directed from recording frequency of offender contact to measuring the effectiveness of interventions and outcomes based on an empirical, research based, best practices approach to changing criminogenic behavior.

Your duties will include preparing Court reports; completing risk assessments to determine specific needs of offenders; developing and implementing offender case plans including the use of specialized risk assessment tools to incorporate relapse prevention. You will be responsible for composing violation reports, performing home/community assessments, and you will be required to complete community collateral checks and curfew checks. Your outstanding interpersonal skills will help you respond effectively with victims of criminal offences, collaborate with community agencies, victim resources, police and other government personnel to provide an integrated approach to offender management and supervision in the community.

To qualify, you will possess a Bachelor of Social Work, Bachelor of Indian Social Work, Bachelor of Human Justice, Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Arts (Justice Studies, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology and Indigenous Studies) or have grand-parenting rights in accordance with Community Corrections qualifications.
