The Ministry of Justice is seeking an individual with proven leadership skills for the position of

Manager, Court Security,

located in Regina. This position is accountable for the safe and effective operation of court security within an assigned geographical area. Key responsibilities include ensuring court security services are delivered in accordance with

The Court Security Act, 2012,

providing leadership to a team of 30+ individuals; and leading initiatives to increase the operational effectiveness of the service.

As a Peace Officer, the Manager operates under

The Criminal Code of Canada

,

The Court Officials Act 2012

and

The Court Security Act, 2012.

You will play a key role in liaising with various stakeholders such as the judiciary to ensure security measures meet judicial needs and expectations; federal and municipal police and correctional services regarding the security of individuals, timely movement of prisoners and other related justice system issues; and various court officials (e.g., prosecutors, legal aid representatives, victim services, etc.) for the purpose of dealing with the concerns and issues of each group.

You will be primarily responsible for the effective operation of security services and the safety of all individuals within the courthouses. This includes overseeing the security and safety actions for Judges, courtrooms, and the public; the escort and detention of prisoners, perimeter screening services, and ensuring documents are accurate for persons being released and/or held in custody and that information is kept confidential at all times. You will also investigate and respond to complaints/allegations with a focus of obtaining facts and achieving resolution. As the Manager, you will foster team success by creating an environment that welcomes, supports, and respects diversity of employees and clients.

Typically the knowledge and skills for this position are obtained through a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public administration or a related field, and/or significant experience working in the justice/law enforcement area.

The ideal candidate will possess a proven record of organizational leadership including the development and implementation of policies/standards and/or managing major initiatives to increase the operational effectiveness of an organization. You will also have experience in managing a large and diverse number of employees.

Prior to being hired as the Manager, Court Security, you will be required to p

roduce a driver’s abstract obtained within the previous three months which demonstrates a safe and responsible driving record, and have a satisfactory criminal records check in accordance with the Government of Saskatchewan Criminal Records Check Policy.

During the probationary period, you will be required to produce a valid certificate in self-defence training equivalent to the standard of Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT), and be authorized under

The Police Act, 1990

, to carry a firearm as identified in the Saskatchewan Police College Firearms Training Manual.
