The Ministry of Environment is seeking a highly motivated and results-oriented team player to join its Fisheries Management Unit, Fish, Wildlife and Lands Branch. This position will be headquartered in Prince Albert and report to the Fisheries Management Specialist. The successful candidate will contribute to sustainable, integrated fisheries management within central Saskatchewan.
In this position you will design and implement fisheries assessment studies, and develop fisheries management plans that address conservation, allocation and enhancement of fisheries resources. You will review harvest proposals, development proposals and environmental impact assessments for implications to fisheries management and aquatic habitats. The position will provide professional leadership and advice to government, businesses, industries and the public on fisheries management and aquatic habitat issues. Supervision of seasonal, technical staff is a responsibility of this position. Considerable travel and fieldwork is required.
The successful candidate will have knowledge of fisheries management science and practice; fisheries planning, allocation, conservation and enhancement and; fisheries inventory, monitoring and research procedures.
Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be obtained through a Bachelor of Science degree in the biological sciences and several years of directly related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The ability to travel to and work in remote locations and work flexible hours is a requirement of this position.
