As senior practitioner and Assistant Supervisor, the successful candidate in this position will provide consultation and supervision to employees who provide child protection and child care services within the region. The Assistant Supervisor has responsibility for coaching, supervising and training staff and assumes a leadership role in providing guidance and support in the delivery of services in the absence of the Supervisor. You will be responsible for investigating allegations of neglect, physical and sexual abuse, assessing family dynamics, determining risk factors to the child’s safety, implementing intervention plans to address child protection concerns and providing support services to the family as required.

In cases where the child is admitted to the care of the Ministry, you will be responsible for addressing and determining the child’s needs, including placement in foster care or appropriate alternate resource. You will provide assessment and treatment planning to ensure the child’s health, social, psychological and educational needs are met on a short and long term basis. You will be responsible for developing re-integration planning and preparing the child to return home.

The Assistant Supervisor must possess a Bachelor of Social Work, Bachelor of Indian Social Work or an equivalent social work degree from an accredited university, as approved by the CASW/CASSW. He or she must also be knowledgeable about ministry policies and procedures as outlined in the

Child and Family Services Act

and Family and Child Services manuals to deliver mandated services and provide information to staff, community agencies and the general public.
