We are seeking a collaborative relationship builder who has the drive to succeed and the dedication to excel in the engagement of indigenous and non-indigenous communities regarding resource management issues and initiatives.

The Resource Management Engagement Specialist manages important relationships by active design, coordination and implementation of programs which incorporate place-based knowledge, including Indigenous knowledge and traditional practices. Operating with minimal supervision, you will collaborate with Indigenous Relations and Ministry staff to develop, deliver and evaluate specific engagement and consultation initiatives relative to the Ministry Resource Management program; with initial emphasis on wildlife and fisheries. In your role, you will facilitate discussions, lead workshops, advise regional staff and coordinate engagement activities. The Resource Management Engagement Specialist focus is to build relationships, influence multiple stakeholders and provide interpretation and understanding of community, cultural and traditional information to facilitate a common understanding of local issues.

ABOUT YOUR WORK ENVIRONMENT
In this role, you will primarily be working in an office setting in Ft. McMurray; however, travel throughout the Lower Athabasca Region will be required to effectively support the priority work of the Branch. You will have regular and on-going contact with other Ministry and government (provincial and federal) departments and agencies as well as industry, First Nations, Metis organizations and public special interest groups.

Qualifications

University degree in Biology or Natural Resource Management supplemented by four years progressively related experience in areas such as natural resource management, stakeholder consultation, community engagement, and Indigenous consultation is required. Practical and applied understanding of the interaction between ecosystems, biodiversity and natural resource development considered an asset. A valid class 5 driver’s license and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and outlook is required.

Ability to exercise CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING AND JUDGMENT in the appropriate application of procedures and policies for effective participation in the development and implementation of land management planning and implementation.

Salary

$2,775.64 to $3,638.48 bi-weekly ($72,444 to $94,964 per annum)

Notes

This is a two-year temporary employment opportunity expected to end March 2019. This position may be used to fill future vacancies across the Government of Alberta, at equal or lower classification and salary.
