Lethbridge: Are you passionate about Alberta’s agricultural water resources? If so, our team needs your professional agricultural expertise.
As the Research Specialist with the Irrigation and Farm Water Section, you will have the exciting opportunity to provide a leadership role in developing methods to apply potash in irrigation pipelines for the control of aquatic invasive mussels. You will work in a dynamic team environment of scientists, agrologists, biologists, engineers, and technologists to participate in this multi-discipline, multi-agency, applied-research initiative.
The incumbent will have a strong knowledge of agricultural environmental sustainability issues, specifically related to water resources. Your strong organizational and analytical skills will be used to develop scientifically defensible mitigation strategies. The incumbent will utilize familiarity of Alberta’s agriculture industry to ensure mitigation strategies are practical for irrigators and water communities. An important component of this position is the preparation and transfer of research information to stakeholders, partners, funding and regulatory agencies, and the public. The preferred candidate must demonstrate excellent listening, verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and partnering skills.
University graduate in agriculture, environmental, or a related discipline, specializing in water science plus one year related experience is required. Skill in the use of soil, crop and water sampling field equipment is required. Knowledge of Alberta’s irrigation industry or practical on-farm experience is required. Knowledge of applied research and monitoring techniques for agricultural field systems is required. Demonstrated knowledge and skill in the use of computers for communication, data collection and analyses, database management, graphics and mapping is required. Experience in project management is an asset. Knowledge of aquatic invasive species, particularly invasive mussels is an asset. Eligibility for membership with the Alberta Institute of Agrologists is required.
$2,161.37 to $3,241.54 bi-weekly
$56,412 to $84,604 annually
This is a temporary position until March 31, 2018.
