We are looking for a brilliant analyst who is also a great communicator. The Provincial Crop Market Analyst position has much to offer. As the name implies you will be the department’s expert on crop markets in Alberta. Duties include explaining changes in market conditions, conducting market research using advanced analytics and information extension. The successful candidate must possess strong project management and leadership qualities.
A platform like this requires a professional with a good work ethic and a lot of common sense. You are expected to quickly establish yourself as the provincial expert on crop markets. A successful candidate will have the skills to do the following:
- Develop and deliver market outlook presentations to a variety of audiences;
- Leverage financial and human resources to conduct relevant research on crop markets;
- Develop innovative communication products such as “Call of the Land” radio spots, webinars and YouTube videos to present information highlighting current market trends;
- Provide content to an informative email newsletter distributed bi-weekly;
- Write instructional articles for the Agricultural Marketing Guide published on Ropin’ the Web ;
- Handle media inquiries.
The Provincial Crop Market Analyst conducts trend analysis and provides insights for risk management and forecasting purposes. Another challenge is to build on the existing strength of this position and take it further into the information age. Upon request, you will provide topic specific briefings to senior management. You will respond to producer and association requests for information. Upon request, you will be involved in program design, policy development and issues management.
You will work independently to monitor and communicate market conditions on a daily, weekly or monthly basis depending on the situation. You will also work jointly with other team members in economics, statistics, production and extension within ARD as part of a coordinated crop information system. You will work with partners both within and outside of the department on projects relating to crop markets and price risk management. The incumbent will have the capacity to create and use mathematical models to guide decision making, demonstrate both intuitive and academic analytical skills. You must have strong written and verbal communication abilities.
A Master’s degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Economics, or Business plus four years of related experience in agriculture or agricultural business is required. Practical experience in crop marketing would be an asset. Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower level. The successful candidate must be eligible for membership with the Alberta Institute of Agrologists (AIA). Equivalencies will be considered.
$2,827.83 – $3,725.73 bi-weekly
$73,806 – $97,241 annually
