As the FNMI Policy Advisor you will:

  • Lead major policy and program/initiative development projects aimed at supporting strategic direction for FNMI Education.

  • Provide leadership, direction, planning and integration to internal and external project committees to ensure successful outcomes for FNMI students.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships and strategic alliances, internally and externally, to promote and ensure shared understanding and responsibility to improve education outcomes for FNMI students.
  • Finally, you will lead the development of an issues management analysis process to provide advice and awareness of issues, trends and challenges which will affect the development of policies, initiatives and programs.

    This competition will be used to staff one permanent and one temporary position (up to one year).

    In this role, you will be required to demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Build Collaborative Environments : Leads and contributes to the conditions and environments that allow people to work collaboratively and productively to achieve outcomes.
  • Systems Thinking : Understands that work done within the Alberta Public Service is part of a larger integrated and inter-related environment and impacts a variety of other groups/projects inside and outside the APS, and keeps broader impacts and connections in mind.

  • A university degree in a related field (i.e. education, native studies, public administration, public policy).
  • A minimum of four years’ of related experience including project and issues management.
  • Experience working with Alberta First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities.
  • Working knowledge of Alberta’s education system and guidelines is an asset.


    $2,775.64 – $3,638.48 biweekly ($72,444.20 – $94,964.33 annually)
