Edmonton: The Competitiveness and Market Analysis Section within Alberta Agriculture and Forestry has a unique opportunity for a results-oriented individual to demonstrate their superior research, analytical and communications skills.
The cost of agricultural inputs such as (fertilizer, fuel, electricity, capital, labour, land, etc.) is a growing concern for primary producers and those in the agri-food industry. Your job will be to help both farm and government clients understand what is happening, and why, on the agricultural inputs front. This often includes providing strategic recommendations as well.
Your job will involve tracking prices for major inputs both in Alberta and in comparable jurisdictions. You will analyze market and competitiveness trends as well as drivers of change. Provide advice on likely future cost changes and the impact of those changes. Strong interpersonal skills are required for this position in order to interact with a variety of stakeholders, and to build the necessary business relationships with internal and external clients.
The job requires taking your research and communicating the results through a variety of mediums such as briefing notes, news articles, radio interviews, etc. Knowledge of the various production and processing sectors that make up Alberta’s vast agri-food supply chain is essential. The work is largely self-directed and requires a flexible pro-active individual. You must be able to work independently or as part of a team. You should have the capacity to lead a team to a successful conclusion of a project.
Qualifications
A university degree in Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Business or Economics, plus three years of related experience is required. Related experience includes progressive analytical or agricultural product marketing experience. Practical experience in government or industry will be an asset. Equivalencies will be considered. Candidates with lesser qualifications will be considered at a lower level. The successful candidate must be eligible for membership with the Alberta Institute of Agrologists.
Salary
$2,524.91 – $3,462.47 bi-weekly
$65,900 – $90,370 annually
