ACPS is looking for a strong leader to manage their new Crown Prosecutors office in Slave Lake. In consultation with the Chief Crown Prosecutor, and three other Prosecutors the Legal Assistant/Office Manager is responsible for leading, mentoring, and motivating a team of Legal Assistants. This position also provides administrative and legal assistant support to the Chief Crown Prosecutor.

In this role you will be responsible for a wide variety of administrative tasks including but not limited to:
– Administer the performance planning process for support staff by ensuring that goals are set, reviewed, and achieved along with training and development.
– Monitor and administer workload issues such as overtime and leaves to ensure adequate support is available for prosecutors.
– Implement cross-training of staff to address short-term absences.
– Maintain attendance records for Crown and support staff and provide monthly time deviation reports to pay and benefits.
– Oversee budget by collecting and compiling data and forecasting future needs.
– Prepare monthly expenditure forecasts, which involve monitoring the processing of accounts payable, ad hoc, travel and expense claims.
– Collaborate with stakeholders such as probation, Court Services, RCMP, and judiciary.

– Proven experience in a legal assistant and leadership/supervisory role.
– Solid coaching and interpersonal skills.
– Self-motivation, and are a team player.
– A comprehensive understanding of the criminal justice system and processes.

Qualifications

A two year diploma in a related field such as a legal assistant or paralegal, plus a minimum of two years progressively responsible related experience as a legal assistant. Preference will be given to candidates with supervisory experience. Criminal law experience is an asset. Equivalencies will be considered.

Salary

$2,137.18 to $2,632.51 bi-weekly

Notes

You may be eligible for a retention allowance of $6,000 annually less all lawful deductions.
You may be eligible for up to $8,000 in relocation assistance.
Candidates will be required to attend the interview in person.
Final candidates for this position will be asked to undergo security screening. This competition may be used to fill future permanent, temporary, full time and part time vacancies.

Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification and salary.
