Information Officer Support

This position will support the Wildfire Information Unit by providing support to the branch through communication strategies and planning. Their primary role during wildfire season is to answer public inquiry. This position will be the primary worker for the FYI-FIRE line, dedicated to answering questions about wildfire and fire ban issues. This work requires knowledge of wildfire operations, strong communication and public relation skills.

This position will support branch needs through outreach and education programs and will be responsible for social media administration, as well as the administration of two websites. Occasionally this position will be required to provide support on FireSmart initiatives and will also support other branches of the Forestry Division.

The Information Officer Support will have strong relationship-building skills to develop networks, allowing them to better understand the needs of the Wildfire Management Branch and the Forestry Division.

Post-secondary graduation in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or related; equivalencies will be considered. Directly related experience in communications, public relations, journalism.


(36.25 work week) $28.77/hr to $37.40/hr


This position is a seasonal hire for the 2018 wildfire season expected to expire on or before October 31, 2018 with possibility of extension. This position may be required to work evenings and weekends as required.
