Do you have a passion for working with Children and Families? Do you want to be part of a dedicated group of professionals who are working together to develop nurturing and safe environments for children, youth and families? If so, the Edmonton office of Metis Settlements, Child and Family Services has an opportunity for you!
In this position, you will be responsible for providing services through various programs to the Metis Settlements families residing in the Edmonton Area. Part of your responsibilities will be assessing whether a child is in need of intervention services by gathering, analyzing and consolidating information related to the safety needs of the child. An in-depth understanding of family dynamics when dealing with family crisis and how that influences a family is also an important component of this role.
Your ability to work with and consult with families is key as you jointly create safety plans for children. Drawing upon your strong knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act in addition to other related legislation, you will complete intakes, assessments and make recommendations based on the safety and protection of children and families. As a Generalist, you will also be responsible for ensuring services and resources are provided to children and families through effective case planning, case management and ensuring children are supported to permanency and have a safe home forever.
Your excellent time management, interpersonal, interviewing, assessment, problem solving, and decision making skills are critical to your success in this role. Effective verbal and written communication skills are required in the development of service plans with families and to work effectively with a natural family support network and presentation of documents for court. You will be utilizing the Casework Practice Framework and the Signs of Safety to direct best practice with families and the relationships you have with the Metis Settlements families we serve.
Bachelor of Social Work and one year related experience is required. Computer skills in Microsoft Office are required. Experience working in a front line Intervention Services role is preferred. Experience working with the Aboriginal Culture or the Metis Settlements is an asset. Equivalencies will be considered (i.e. Social Work diploma and 4 years related experience).
