We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Caseworker who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and families in their communities.
The Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Ac t and the Child Intervention Practice Framework are the guides for Child Intervention Practice. The roles within Child and Family Services focus on creating safety and wellbeing of children by demonstrating competence and anti-oppressive approach in the four domains of Child Intervention Practice:
- Preserving and supporting families to build capacity;
- Connecting them with their culture and communities;
- Facilitating permanency;
- Collaborating with children, families, agencies and communities.

The Caseworker will utilize a strength-based approach to provide and manage services within specified timeframes and mitigate risk. For this challenging role we require individuals with a commitment to protecting children, preserving the family unit, and developing the community as a whole. As an ideal Caseworker applicant, you have knowledge of community resources and the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act. The successful candidate will need to be highly motivated and self-directed with strong time management and organizational skills to be considered an asset to our team(s).
As a Caseworker, your responsibilities will include intake, family enhancement, case management activities, as well as child abuse and neglect interventions. An important component of this role will involve you utilizing your strong assessment skills to determine the needs and risk of children and families, and for providing child intervention services. You will facilitate goal setting, as well as identify community services for clients in order to ultimately assist the family in expanding networks that improve safety, security and development. You will identify service gaps, monitor and evaluate quality of service and outcomes, and promote capacity building within the community.

Bachelor of Social Work Degree with some directly related experience working with children and families is required. Please clearly indicate the length of time, in months, of your related experience. Previous Child Protection experience is preferred. Equivalencies will be considered.
Successful applicants who possess a MSW, BSW, or Diploma in Social Work will be required to register and maintain registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers prior to commencement of employment. Successful applicants must also have a valid Alberta Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle, as the role requires some travel, including transportation of children and attending private residences. The ability to work irregular hours is also required.
$2,532.32 to $3,273.50 bi-weekly
This competition may be used to fill future vacancies across the Government of Alberta.
Final candidates for this position will be asked to undergo a security screening and a Child and Youth Information Module (CYIM) check. In order to expedite this process, please be prepared to present a recent Criminal Records Check that includes a Vulnerable Sector screening check at the time of the interview.
This competition will be used to fill future Caseworker positions in Calgary and Area Child and Family Services. Successful applicants will be placed on an eligibility list and offered Caseworker positions as they become available.
