An exciting and challenging opportunity exists in North Central Region for an experienced, knowledgeable professional with strong leadership skills to lead a dynamic team of Regional Program Managers. The successful incumbent will support the Ministry’s direction on Child Intervention Practice Framework, Community Based Service Delivery, Indigenous Strategies, supporting implementation of Signs of Safety, Front End Practice, Caregiver Supports and Lifelong Connections.

The Associate Director will provide strategic support and advice to the Regional Director, leadership to managers, supervisors, specialists, staff, contract agencies and community partners to ensure that the Region’s direction and business priorities are aligned with the Ministry’s programs and initiatives.

In this position, you would be faced with challenges that would require team-building supports, organizational design consulting, and other interventions to ensure the successful adaptation to new business opportunities ensuring appropriate actions and strategies are undertaken to support change management. The responsibility for guiding the shift from a focus on child protection to healthy families; developing positive communities, promoting collaborative partnerships and achieving better outcomes for children and families is integral to this role. Using your capacity to think in a strategic and visionary manner, you will monitor performance within the Region as it relates to child intervention practice, fiscal and resource management and provide leadership, guidance, direction and feedback to managers responsible for the provision of services, including regional contract management within the provincial procurement structure.

You will present as a role model to staff in areas such as dealing with teamwork, open communication, collaboration, adapting to change, conflict, mediation and problem solving. Serving this large geographic region, you will effectively use technology and demonstrate the ability to operate as required in a mobile environment.


Related Degree in Social Work, Social Sciences or Human Services supplemented by a minimum of six years directly related supervisory experience in child intervention is required. Knowledge of and a minimum of five years experience working in Children?s Services is preferred. Extensive experience working with Indigenous families and communities is required. Previous progressively responsible management experience is deemed an asset. Equivalencies will be considered.


$3,352.75 to $4,574.56 Bi-weekly


North Central Alberta Children’s Services region expands from the Saskatchewan to British Columbia borders. The base for this position will be negotiated with the successful candidate.

One must have a valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle as extensive travel is required.

The successful applicants who possess a BSW, MSW or Diploma in Social Work are required to register and maintain registration with the College of Social Workers.

You will be asked to undergo an academic check, Intervention Record Check, and provide a vulnerable sector Criminal Records Check.
