Role

Do you want to make a difference in the lives of children and families in central Alberta? If so, we are offering exciting and challenging Assessor opportunity to play an integral role in achieving optimal outcomes for children and families in our Camrose District Office.

Candidates for this position should be self-motivated, open to challenges and eager to work with children and families to improve outcomes and maximize their potential. Experience in building positive relationships with stakeholders, community agencies and families is required for this position.

Assessors receive all reports of alleged abuse where they are required to examine the information and determine whether there is a need for assessment/investigation or to provide information on interim community and family support services. In this capacity you will be required to work with children and families to develop plans that ensure the safety and well-being of children and youth, provide counselling to children and families, and otherwise carry out the role of guardian. You must have flexibility in your schedule as this position is required to participate in an on-call after hour’s rotation (evenings and weekends).

The successful applicant will have developed coordination and facilitation skills in order to consult with other community service providers, above average communication (oral and written) and conflict resolution skills, sound investigative and assessment skills. You must be able to develop strategies for engagement in an assessment/investigation. You will also possess a sound knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act and related legislation, policies and standards.

Ideal Assessors have knowledge of community resources, and the Child, Youth, and Family Enhancement Act, possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, build solid relationships, and require strong assessment and case management abilities. Further to this, the application and understanding of conflict resolution and sound investigative and assessment skills are required as Assessors develop strategies for engagement in assessment/investigation.

Qualifications

Masters or Bachelor of Social Work and a year of related experience in case planning and management, investigation or assessment are required. Related experience working in Child Protection and Intervention Services is preferred. Experience working with or knowledge of Aboriginal communities and culture is an asset.

The following equivalencies will also be considered: a related university degree and three years’ related experience, related diploma and four years’ related experience or a related certificate and five years’ related experience.

Salary

$2,580 to $3,335 bi-weekly

Notes

This is a temporary position ending on or before March 31, 2016 with an excellent chance of extension.

Final candidates for this position will be asked to undergo a security screening Criminal Record Check (including a Vulnerable Sector Check) and Children?s Services Intervention Check.

Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the Ministry. Travel is a requirement of this position, therefore the successful candidate must have a valid Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.

Delegated Caseworkers are expected to participate on an after-hours on-call rotation

The Health Professions Act requires that the successful applicant who possesses a BSW, MSW or Diploma in Social Work be registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers prior to being employed.

This competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same or lower classification level across the Government of Alberta.
