As technical experts in various resource portfolios, the Analysts will be tasked with interesting work across multiple subject areas. Analysts must be adaptable to provide expertise and support in the following functions:

  • Evaluate the economics of Alberta’s energy resources, energy-related projects, and royalty systems, such as profitability and competiveness.
  • Monitor Alberta, North America and global energy supply and demand fundamentals, and analyze Alberta’s investment conditions.
  • Conduct key energy economic assumptions and royalty revenue forecasts under multiple scenarios.
  • Perform financial analysis of energy companies and conventional oil, natural gas, and oil sands projects as well as hydrocarbon processing facilities.
  • Prepare energy statistics and deliver regular energy reports.
  • Assess the potential impacts of policies and market trends on Alberta’s oil and gas production, supply, and royalties. In consultation with various internal and external stakeholders, the information derived from the assessment assists to inform the design, advocacy, and implementation of Alberta’s royalty programs and help determine current and future strategies of energy resources in the province.
  • Qualifications

    A related degree (Resource and Environmental Economics, Economics, Finance, Engineering) and 4 years of directly related experience is required. A Master’s Degree in Economics or an MBA is an asset. Advanced technical skills in economic modelling as well as advanced skills in spreadsheets, databases, and word processing/presentation software are also required. Experience in applying economic principles, energy-related economic experience, and experience working within energy-related policies, regulations, and regulatory regimes would be an asset. Broad understanding of engineering principles and geology related to the oil and gas industry would also be an asset.

    Salary

    $2,775.64 to $3,638.48 bi-weekly (~$72,444 to $94,964 annually)

    Notes

    The Energy Information and Analysis branch is currently recruiting 6-month to 1-year temporary positions to support the critical work of the department. As the branch is currently under an organizational review, the final placements of the positions have not been determined at this time. This competition will also be used for future vacancies in similar roles.
