Golder has a new opportunity for a Fish Biologist to join our team on a full time basis based in Calgary, Edmonton or Saskatoon. As a Fish Biologist, you will be responsible for applying technical skills and scientific knowledge on monitoring, research, and environmental assessment projects.

An overview of your role will include:

  • Working with multi-disciplinary teams and developing positive working relationships in a team environment
  • Participation in environmental impact assessments for various types of developments including power, mines, oil and gas facilities, and pipelines
  • Leading or assisting with field programs in aquatic ecology (ie. collection of fish and fish habitat, water quality/quantity, and benthic invertebrate data)
  • Preparing quality written material on time, with scope, and within budget
  • Data interpretation and statistical analyses
  • Participation in Golder and client health and safety programs
  • Mentoring staff
  • Interacting with clients and representatives from regulatory agencies


You will have the following qualifications and skills:

  • University degree in Environmental Sciences with a minimum of a M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree with two years of experience, or a B.Sc, Degree with four years of experience
  • Strong technical writing, analytical, communication, and project management skills
  • Experience designing and leading fish and fish habitat studies/assessments
  • Working knowledge of aquatic ecosystems and fish ecology within western and northern Canada
  • Strong outdoor skills, experience working in remote areas, and experience with operating boats and motors

The following skills and experience are desirable:

  • Prior consulting and industry experience
  • Experience on multi-disciplinary projects
  • Experience in environmental impact assessment and offsetting/compensation planning
  • Knowledge of regulatory and permitting requirements for developments in or near water
