Security administration is a hands-on role that requires a high level of technical expertise. The Security Administrator is responsible for a broad range of responsibilities, the implementation of an information security program and the day-to-day administration of information security processes and tools.
As our Information Technology Security Administrator you will:
Assess and evaluate information security risks and potential vulnerabilities on the organization’s information systems, including data networks, telecom networks, web systems, data center systems and other data management assets.
Support and implement information security program related projects and activities.
Perform system security administration on designated technology platforms in accordance with the defined policies, standards and procedures, as well as with industry best practices and vendor guidelines.
Identify and mitigate known security control weaknesses, such as unnecessary services or applications, redundant user accounts or missing patching as a means of hardening systems in accordance with security policies and standards.
Collate security program related data to produce monthly exception and management dashboard.
Develop and maintain documentation for security systems and procedures.
Administer Security Information and Event Management system
Monitor system logs, SIEM tools and network traffic for unusual or suspicious activity. Interpret such activity and make recommendations for resolution.
Respond to and, where appropriate, resolve or escalate reported security incidents.
Perform normal and exceptional Identity and Access Management
Perform user and access administration in accordance with the defined policies, standards and procedures.
Process user access and change requests, escalating such requests when appropriate.
Perform periodic user access reviews for audit purposes.
Perform threat and vulnerability assessments, in some cases followed by appropriate remedial action. This may include working with external vendors on such assessments.
Identify solutions and work with technology partners to mitigate known vulnerabilities.
Monitor security vulnerability information from vendors and third parties.
Monitor antivirus/antimalware console to identify and respond to various virus/malware/ransomware related issues.
Promote information security awareness through training and education.
Continuously keeping up to date with security trends and education.
As an Information Technology Security Administrator, you must have:
A College or University degree in a related field and/or equivalent
Thorough knowledge of technologies related to encryption, intrusion detection & prevention, firewalls, virus protection, etc.
Knowledge of administering and maintaining issues related to network connectivity, Internet access, wireless access, email, etc.
Ability to review and evaluate organization’s networks and collaborate on recommendations for changes
Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Knowledge of monitoring and maintaining routers, switches, firewalls, and other networking devices. Having a Network Administration background is an asset.
Knowledge of monitoring and analyzing security incidents using Security Incident and Event Management Systems (SIEM)
Ability to use security tools to diagnose issues on systems and network
Minimum three (3) year’s in security administration, including;
Hands-on experience with firewalls, routers, switches, systems and network administration.
Knowledge of Windows operating systems
Knowledge of TCP/IP routing, DNS, DHCP, boundary gateways and DMZs
Certifications preferred: GSEC, CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Network+, CCNA
Excellent communication skills (we place a lot of value on being personable and happy to help).
Strong collaboration, interpersonal, organizational and decision making skills.
