GGC is seeking a Unit Banking Consultant to lead the replication of unit banking and financial reporting to a second regional processing centre.

*This position could be located either in Atlantic Canada or in Toronto.

*This is a limited term contract between 6-12 months depending on the final scope of deliverables. This position could be structured as an independent contract.

Responsibilities and Duties

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Determine business requirements for a new banking and financial management processing centre of approximately 45,000 unit banking transactions per year for 1,000 Guiding units by assessing current assets and determining gaps.
  • Analyze financial reporting requirements for three provinces and determine best accounting solution to meet the project requirements.
  • Oversee modification of Web Form and technical support to apply to new processing centre.
  • Oversee issuance of a banking services RFP and coordinate selection of an appropriate banking services provider
  • Oversee selection of a purchase card vendor.
  • Review processing requirements and tools for unit cheques, EFT remittances, reconciliations, GST/HST remittances, inter-fund transfers, etc.
  • Set up requirements for depositing services for master and non-standard banking services, for credit limits and use of credit cards and protocols for suspension of use.
  • Establish tools and protocols for batch processing, quality monitoring, resolving deficit issues, responding to overdrafts and preparing statistical analysis.
  • Identify reporting requirements and reporting schedule for Provincial/Area/District Commissioners and Treasurers as well as Unit reporting.
  • Identify standards for compliance reporting, fundraising cash flow, collections, repayment plans as well as record retention.
  • Determine job descriptions for unit banking personnel taking into account training and coaching, coordination of workload, cross training for coverage due to vacations and absences and time and leave tracking.
  • Review and modify training manuals, webinars and other communications tools for dissemination to volunteers including potential online supports.

Qualifications and Skills


  • 5-10 years’ progressive experience in consulting within the voluntary sector.
  • 5-10 year’s progressive experience in facilitating collaborative decision making.
  • Aptitude for grasping accounting/finance requirements through prior experience with either systems selection and implementation or 3 to 5 years accounting experience.
  • Ability to analyze information requirements and tailor consultations with regards to project context.
  • Ability to translate customer needs and design systems that meet user requirements.
  • Familiarity with tendering banking services or similar vendor relations is an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage project timelines and
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Advanced level MS Office (Excel, Access, Word, Outlook).
  • Working knowledge of Sage Accpac would be an asset
