Gilead is seeking an experienced, well-organized, results-oriented healthcare professional with a proven track record of executing clearly defined goals and objectives. The successful candidate will assume a 1-year field-based contract position in the Vancouver area in the capacity of Medical Scientist within Gilead’s Medical Affairs Division in Canada. Conversion to full-time employment following contract expiration a possibility (contingent on individual performance and business need). The Medical Scientist will develop and maintain professional relationships with health care professionals, provide scientific support to key healthcare decision makers in academic institutions and community healthcare providers throughout assigned geography. The Medical Scientist will also disseminate clinical information about Gilead’s innovative products for the treatment of HIV to thought-leaders, academic institutions, healthcare professionals, and professional organizations.

Essential Duties and Job Functions:
Implements defined goals and objectives aligned with the Medical Affairs Plan of Action and other strategic initiatives
Responds to clinical inquiries regarding marketed or developmental Gilead products.
Develops and presents complex scientific and clinical data for these products.
Identifies and develops regional and national opinion leaders to support Gilead products and trains Gilead approved speakers through personal contacts and on-site visits.
Establishes strong relationships with opinion leaders, clinical investigators and providers at academic and non-academic settings.
Provides sales force with training at national and regional levels.
Works on Gilead phase 4 programs that include collaboration with investigators and Gilead personnel.
Selects sites for both phase 4 and other clinical trials.
Anticipates obstacles and difficulties that may arise in the field and resolves them in a collaborative manner.
The candidate works collaboratively with Gilead personnel in Sales, Marketing, Clinical Research, Global Safety and Medical Communication.
Utilizes scientific resources to deliver impactful presentations in a variety of settings.
The incumbent travels to appointments, meetings and conferences on a frequent and regular basis, occasionally with short notice.
Must have the ability to work as a member of several teams that may overlap such as national MS team, regional sales team, national accounts, and others.
Well-developed experience in preparing and delivering presentations is required.
Experience in the management or investigation of clinical trials is required.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
Advanced health sciences degree (M.D., Pharm. D., PhD are preferred) with a minimum of 5 years of experience in healthcare or pharmaceutical industry.
Two to four years experience in HIV clinical/research arena;
Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills (including ability to network)
Bilingual (French and English) candidates are preferred.
Excellent project management ability and organizational skills, including the management of multiple priorities and resources
Thorough knowledge of HIV
Excellent judgment and initiative are required
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Outlook) is required
Must have knowledge of and be willing to comply with all regulatory/compliance policies.
Must be able to maintain a current professional licensure consistent with degree in province of residence.
Candidate must be based in Vancouver
