Project Development Assistant (Term)

Genome Prairie is seeking an individual to fill a twelve week term position as Project Development Assistant at its Winnipeg office. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the successful candidate will play an important role in supporting short-term projects on a wide range of initiatives related to Genome Prairie’s long-term goals. The position will focus on supporting a sector engagement strategy development process, assistance with the development of scientific projects, and communications support. Key tasks will include supporting proposal development, including researching private and public sectors for funding opportunities and assisting with the creation of communications materials.

This position is being partly funded through Service Canada (Human Resources and Skills Development Canada) and requires the following eligibility criteria to be met by the candidate:

  • are between 15 and 30 years of age;
  • have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
  • are Canadian citizens or permanent residents or have official refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (foreign students are not eligible); and
  • are legally entitled to work in Canada, according to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

The following additional criteria will also be considered:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institution and pursuing a degree related to business administration, economics, biotechnology or agriculture;
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills;
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment;
  • Event planning experience;
  • Budget planning experience;
  • Excellent research, investigative and analytical skills;
  • Ability to translate broad, strategic intent into tactical plans and directions;
  • Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; and
  • Knowledge of genomics and bioinformatics and a keen interest in science and innovation would be assets.

Remuneration is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
