Genome Canada is a not-for-profit organization that aims to harness the transformative power of genomics for the benefit of all Canadians. We connect ideas and people across public and private sectors to find new uses for genomics, invest in large-scale science and technology to fuel innovation, and translate discoveries into solutions across key sectors of national importance, including health, agriculture, forestry, fisheries & aquaculture, energy, mining, and the environment.

Genome Canada maximises its footprint and Canada’s research strengths in these key sectors through the development of sector strategies[1], in consultation with sector stakeholders, to map out how the sector can further leverage genomics to its advantage.

Genome Canada is also committed to understanding the societal considerations of genomics research and does so through genomics in society initiatives and funding research that considers genomics and its ethical, environmental, economic, legal and social aspects (GE3LS). This research investigates questions at the intersection of genomics and society. It provides stakeholders the insights needed to anticipate impacts of scientific advances in genomics, avoid pitfalls, cultivate success, and ultimately, facilitate the uptake and use of genomics discoveries and contribute to Canada’s leadership in the 21st century global bioeconomy.
