Reporting to the Dock Supervisor, the Administrative Dock Lead Hand is responsible for overseeing all types of warehouse work at the Winnipeg terminal as well as frequent use of computer programs for administrative purposes. Responsibilities include monitoring all loading and unloading of trailers and paperwork associated with the freight, as well as performing customer service functions regarding special handlings and freight manifests.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Count and inspect freight for damages, shortages, or overages
  • Oversee handling of freight in stripping and loading of trailers, and sortation of freight onto skids or parcel vans
  • Supervise loading of parcel vans with emphasis on sequence and manifestation to handhelds
  • Ensures data entry of haul bills, specialty accounts and outbound billings is completed
  • Peddle-area dock checking and supervision as required
  • Maximize delivery efficiencies and load factors by optimizing time and load handling
  • Follow-up on special handlings in friendly and respectful manner to provide excellent customer service
  • Keep an organized and clean dock area
  • Unmanifested and onhand freight reports for parcel and peddle
  • Fed Ex sortation, scanning and uploading
  • Customer service functions pertaining to the ATS and Fed Ex, including tracking and reporting of freight
  • Practice and promote a safe work environment by following all safety procedures
  • Disposes garbage in appropriate areas to avoid hazards and clean dock
  • Other duties as necessary to meet the goals and objectives of the dock

Qualification requirements

Minimum of 1 year freight handling experience, with the demonstrated ability to supervise and operate under minimal supervision. Ability to provide leadership on the docks and possess management capabilities. Must be able to operate required equipment safely and efficiently. Experience operating Gardewine computer systems, especially RISC, considered an asset for this position.

Physical Requirements

Physical demands of Dock position are above average. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs from shoulders to floor, bend and twist consistently, standing and walking all day. Need to have a good sense of balance with hand and foot coordination with ability to assess weights and judge distances and heights. Ability to work in varying temperatures, depending upon season. Must be able to operate small equipment such as power jack, fork lift and hand dolly equipment. Personal protective equipment must be worn.
