In return, we will ask you to:

  • Prepare, review and critique drafts of legal documents including leases, partnerships, MoUs, third party license and royalty agreements, etc. in collaboration with the team and outside council
  • Assist with contract management including preparing standard form contracts and amendments, processing and exchanging information on highly sensitive, privileged and confidential matters, and interacting with third parties
  • Facilitate effective file management by managing record-keeping systems and processes
  • Work towards a paperless/near paperless department; support the implementation of document management systems
  • Support Corporate Secretary in governance and regulatory matters including online filings and assisting with the preparation of company policies and guidelines
  • Assist with litigation management
  • Work on special projects

What makes you the ideal candidate?

  • 5+ years of experience providing paralegal support to an in-house legal department or working as a paralegal in a law firm
  • A paralegal diploma / degree from a recognized institution or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proven ability to plan and organize workloads by establishing priorities and respecting deadlines, as well as the flexibility to accommodate unexpected situations
  • Accuracy and detail orientation
  • Superior organizational and time management skills
  • Experience in dealing with IP (an asset)
  • Excellent communication, writing, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Fluency in both English and French
  • Excellent computer proficiency including mastery of MS Office Word and Excel, knowledge of Board Portals (an asset), and the ability to use advanced software intelligently
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Capability for working with minimal supervision
  • Ability to identify innovative solutions to challenges
  • Knowledge of industry best practices, principles, and emerging issues and trends
  • Previous work with Canada’s Not-for-profit Corporations Act a definite asset
