Role Title

Risk Analyst

Purpose of role

Reporting to the VP, Enterprise Risk Management, this role is responsible for supporting the development of the risk management process, disciplines and reporting.

Job Description

Key responsibilities:

  • Put in place measures to ensure that risk registers across the enterprise are developed and maintained in accordance with the requirements outlined in the Risk Management Guidelines document and provide independent input to and challenge the content of the registers as required. This will involve working consultatively with leaders at the VP level.
  • Develop and jointly present risk training at an individual and/or departmental level as required.
  • Collect and record all risk loss events and near misses and ensure that appropriate root cause analysis has been carried out and actions taken where appropriate.
  • Lead and/or support the development and production of various risk reports, including the development of and reporting against key risk indicators.
  • Working consultatively within the risk team, develop and enhance management information so that the business can monitor whether it is staying within its stated risk appetite across all risk categories and to identify issues for escalation should the business move outside the stated risk appetite parameters.
  • Assist with the maintenance and review of risk related policies to ensure that they remain up to date and that business units fully understand how these policies relate to their day-to-day roles and responsibilities.
  • Promote a risk culture that is responsive to an open attitude to sharing all risk related information and assist in ensuring that all employees appreciate the role that risk plays in their day to day activities.

Key qualifications:

  • University degree or equivalent.
  • 5-7 years of business experience in Financial Services, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of core risk management principles with experience in a risk management related role, with experience of documenting processes, risk and controls.
  • Good understanding of life insurance and annuity business.
  • Experience in the development, production and presentation of Management Information reports, with an ability to convey information in a clear and structured manner, combined with attention to detail.
  • Good numerical skills with an ability to analyse risk data and present in a clear and concise format.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned projects.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills enabling effective interaction at all levels of the organization.
  • Able to build good working relationships with all levels of the business through effective stakeholder management, while also having the ability to challenge and influence.
  • Good organizational and planning skills including taking responsibility for managing workloads and meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft software including Excel, Word & Powerpoint; database knowledge would be an asset.
  • Enthusiastic, able to use own initiative & demonstrates a ‘can do’ approach.
