As a Contract Faculty member you will play a key role by promoting academic excellence, developing an effective learning environment, and designing, teaching, revising and updating curriculum. Your previous working experiences will provide a broad range of practical knowledge to enhance the student learning experience. Contract Faculty may teach in teams or independently and develop/deliver curriculum in a variety of ways including face-to-face (lectures, seminars, labs) and online.

We are currently recruiting contract faculty to teach in our Law Clerk and Paralegal programs.

The Fleming two-year Law Clerk Diploma program provides students with extensive education and training necessary to assist lawyers, and paralegals in both the private and public sector. In their first three semesters students are integrated with students in the college’s Paralegal Program. Courses include Business and Contract Law, Introduction to Litigation, Legal Research and Writing, Criminal Law, Evidence, Advocacy, Small Claims Law, Practice Management, and Legal Accounting. In the final semester students’ skills will be further enhanced in the areas of Property Law, Family Law, Wills and Estates, Corporate Law, and Litigation Law. The Fleming two-year Paralegal diploma is accredited with the Law Society of Upper Canada (LSUC). Fleming program courses meet all competency requirements and prepare students to write the licencing exam and become a member of the LSUC. Fleming’s two year (four semester) Paralegal program has some practical advantages. Not only are our students taught by experts, with a wide range of experience in the field, their first three semesters of study are completely integrated with students in the college’s Law Clerk program. Should students so choose, they can enhance their qualifications and possible job opportunities by returning for an extra semester of study and leave with a second diploma in that related field. What We Are Looking For:

You possess a relevant combination of education and recent related experience:

Law Clerk Program: Minimum Law Clerk Diploma (Law Clerk/Paralegal preferred) with a minimum of 2 years recent, related experience in the capacity of a Corporate Law Clerk. We are also seeking a Property Law Clerk having experienced in residential real estate transactions with a strong understanding of The Planning Act; proficient with Teraview including problem solving of technical issues with the software; strong understanding of the connection between Teraview and Conveyancer and the link between the software. Knowledge of the application of the law as well as excellent technical skills using MSOffice, and written and verbal and communication skills. Strong community contacts to develop placement partnerships are required.

Paralegal Program: Minimum Paralegal licensee or lawyer in good standing by the Upper Law Society (required). Minimum of 2 years recent, related experience working as a paralegal dealing with board and tribunal, matters. Experience preparing for and appearing in before boards and tribunals as well excellent technical skills using MSOffice, verbal and written communication Strong community contacts to develop placement partnerships are required.

Both Programs:
Previous Teaching Experience: Ideally you have experience in applying theories of adult learning in teaching or training at the post-secondary level including curriculum development and using a variety of techniques. This role also requires self-motivation, flexibility and a passion for learning and student success. You will work in a team environment and develop/deliver curriculum using a variety of teaching methodologies which may include lectures, seminars, labs, field trips, work placements, computer simulation, online learning or other innovative delivery methods. Experience in an e-learning environment is a definite asset.

Communication: Superior interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to deliver and receive feedback, as well as well-developed critical thinking/problem solving and organizational / time management skills are required. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning as a dual professional, fostering relationships and connections while providing accessible, superior service to students.

Computer Proficiency: You are proficient working with a variety of computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, internet search, learning management systems and online learning applications
