The Project Manager – Facilities (Capital Projects Team) is responsible for the day to day management of key capital improvement projects as they relate to facilities infrastructure. Projects vary in scope and size and will require different degrees of involvement. The Project Manager will be acting as the owners representative and will be required to manage multiple stakeholders including internal partners, consultants, and contractors.

Specific Skills:

  • The ability to clearly identify and define project objectives
  • The ability to prepare a comprehensive project plan
  • The ability to develop and write a detailed scope statement
  • The ability to manage and conduct both consultant and contractor tenders & RFP’s
  • The ability to read and understand both consultant & construction contracts
  • The ability to read and understand detailed commercial/industrial construction documents
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills and has the ability to lead a project team
  • Possesses strong negotiation skills
  • The ability to manage multiple construction & design projects within a set budget and schedule
  • The ability to prepare estimates and budgets and to evaluate quotations for legitimacy
  • Possesses strong communication skills
  • The ability to create detailed project schedules using MS Project
  • Proficient in MS Office and MS Project
  • Experience with BluBeam & AutoCad is considered an asset

Knowledge:

  • Demonstrates a significant knowledge & experience of project management as it pertains to construction projects. This includes the management of consultants, contractors, sub-contractors, and suppliers
  • Possesses a strong knowledge of construction procurement and procurement law in Canada
  • Has a strong understanding of consultant & construction contracts
  • Significant technical expertise in Commercial & industrial construction processes, procedures, materials, and equipment
  • Experience with preparing budgets and has a strong knowledge of historical construction costing in Western Canada
  • Has knowledge of building regulations and permitting procedures throughout Western Canada

Education & Experience:

  • A minimum of 7 years experience as a Project Manager in the Industrial, Commercial, Institutional (ICI) sector
  • Proven Experience managing multiple delivery methods including: Design, Bid, Build, Design Build, and Construction Management
  • Experience managing projects up to $50M in value
  • Demonstrated experience in liasing with municipal and provincial authorities and other regulatory bodies
  • Possess a Construction, Engineering, or Architectural degree or diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution and hold or be capable of obtaining the applicable professional designation (P.Eng, CTech. Etc.)
  • Possess or are eligible to obtain PMP and/or Gold Seal designation

Responsibilities: Successful delivery of individual Capital Projects

  • O versees the delivery of multiple projects within scope, budget & schedule using sound project management principles and techniques
  • Develops and implements detailed project plans including; scope, schedule, and accurate budgets/estimates
  • Ensures the needs of our internal partners are met through capital improvement projects, while verifying that project objectives are in alignment with larger strategic plans as identified by the Manager of Facilities & Capital Projects.
  • Utilizes technical expertise to find value added solutions for all projects
  • Reports project progress at regular pre-defined intervals or as required by the individual project

Provide mentorship & expertise to junior team members

  • Draws upon previous project management experience to provide support to other team members
  • Shares technical knowledge with internal & external partners for the development of project solutions

Assist in evaluation & Prioritization of proposed Capital Projects

  • Participate in yearly capital program development & evaluation of proposed projects with other members of the Capital Projects Team.

Provide technical input into process improvement

  • Works with the Capital Projects Team on an ongoing basis to refine and improve project management processes

Act as back-up for Manager of Facilities& Capital Projects

  • During times of absence (vacation, travel, or other) of the Manager – Facilities & Capital Projects, the Sr. Project Manager will have temporary authority, knowledge, and Capability to act on behalf of the Manager – Facilities & Capital Projects within the defined Sr. Project Manager approval limits

Accountability:

  • In this position the successful candidate will be expected to define the scope, schedule, and budget for multiple projects and to implement/execute these projects with minimal supervision or input.
  • The Project Manager will be responsible for ensuring that projects under their leadership achieve both schedule & budget objectives while remaining in scope.
  • With the other members of the Capital Projects Team ensure that the Capital Projects Plan is successfully executed each year.
  • Represent the Capital Projects team with the highest degree of professionalism and expertise fitting of an elite project management team.
  • Work with other team members to continually improve processes and procedures and strive to provide the best value to Finning Canada.
  • Financial Authority: It is expected that the Sr. Project Manager will have an approval authority of $50,000
