FEED NOVA SCOTIA is a charitable organization that helps feed hungry people by collecting and distributing food to 147 member agency food banks and meal programs. What is a Membership Services Assistant?
S/he provides support in the development and distribution of resources that enables a sustainable, reliable, and efficient province-wide network of food banks and meal programs. This includes assisting in the launch and roll-out of a food bank management software program, and helping build the capacity of our Member network to efficiently respond to the broad range of needs of low income Nova Scotians.

What does a Membership Services Assistant do?

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of a system to track and promote resources, programs, and services offered by respective organizations;
  • Assist in the development of a plain language overview of the new food bank management software program;
  • Assist in the delivery of the overview of the food bank management software program to staff and volunteers at member agency food banks;
  • Respond to requests for food support and identify trends regarding barriers to, and opportunities for, creating a more nutritious and accessible food system;
  • Help provide volunteers with an engaging and impactful experience;
  • Perform other administrative duties as required.

What are we looking for?

  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution (community college, CEGEP, technical institute, university) and returning to school in the fall of 2016;
  • Knowledge of adult education or group facilitation techniques required, and practical experience in using this knowledge is preferred;
  • Flexible; able to adapt to varied work requirements;
  • Ability to work independently;
  • Strong attention to detail and efficient research techniques;
  • Excellent computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel);
  • Public speaking skills; strong level of comfort engaging with individuals in an informal setting; able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing;
  • Previous database and statistical analysis experience considered an asset;
  • A valid Nova Scotia Class 5 driver’s license would be helpful, as there may be some travel around the province, but not required.

What’s in the fine print?

  • Available to returning students only, this position is funded through a government grant;
  • Place of work is located at 213 Bedford Highway;
  • Full-time hours; Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm;
  • Term position, starting June 13th, 2016 and ending on August 26th, 2016
