The Montreal Holocaust Memorial Centre educates people of all ages and backgrounds about the Holocaust, while sensitizing the public to the universal perils of antisemitism, racism, hate and indifference through its Museum, its commemorative programs and educational initiatives. The Centre promotes our collective responsibility towards respect for diversity. It offers a wide variety of educational and cultural activities to the public. As a non-profit organisation and recognised charity, the Centre’s budget depends on an allocation from Federation CJA, fundraising, admission fees for the Museum, and government and foundation grants for specific projects. In 2016-2017, the Centre’s total budget (operations and projects) is about $1.6 million. It has nine full-time and several contractual employees. The Financial Officer reports to the Executive Director. The Officer is responsible for accounting and bookkeeping, and participates in financial and budget planning.
Duties
Responsible for the accounting system: data entry, receipts, reports;
• Mastery of strategic financial information to support decision-makers; Resource person to the Executive
Director and Finance and Audit Committee;
• Participation in the preparation of the annual budget and follow-up. Cash flow management. Preparation
of trimestral reports;
• Development and application of internal financial controls;
• Financial management of projects, reports as needed;
• Registration of new employees in ADP system; Follow-up with Federation CJA and intervention as needed
to assure accurate payroll and benefits for employees;
• Management of bank deposits and reports;
• Accounts payable and receivable; relations with providers;
• Preparation of the audit file, and support to the auditors;
• All other accounting/bookkeeping related requests.
Education, Knowledge and Skills
• Relevant accounting training or degree;
• Minimum of 5 years work experience et expertise in financial management, preferably in a non-profit
organisation;
• Discretion, resourcefulness and reliability;
• Exceptionally well-organised;
• Excellent mastery of computer software: Donor Perfect, Simply Accounting, Excel and Word;
• Ability in interpersonal and team relationships;
• Autonomous;
• Detail-oriented, diligent, bilingual.
