FCL invites applications for the position of Centre Store Category Manager (Temporary – up to 1 year) in our home office located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

The Centre Store Category Manager will develop and execute category plans for over 200 Food locations that operate in the Co-operative Retailing System (CRS). The primary responsibility of this position is in the areas of Product Assortment and Marketing. The Category Manager will work closely with Category Coordinators and Retail Pricing Specialists to ensure plan-o-grams and pricing strategies match category development team initiatives. They will also manage all vendor interaction, collaboration and negotiations. The Category Manager is responsible for 1 direct report (Category Coordinator) and will oversee their training, career development and performance management.

Reporting to the Category Development Manager, responsibilities for this position include the following:

  • Conduct category reviews, identify opportunities and manage product assortment to maximize category development.
  • Maximize category performance through the introduction of new and innovative products with a focus on speed to market.
  • Develop and implement marketing/promotional opportunities in the food stores through the central flyer and other marketing initiatives and ensure they are delivering on category strategies.
  • Manage all Vendor negotiations in regards to marketing, promotional support and cost of goods.
  • Direct Category Coordinators to ensure efficient and effective category assortments are achieved across CRS Food Retails.
  • Participate in the development and coordination of plan-o-grams to ensure category plans are achieved.
  • Coordinate with the retail pricing team on retail pricing decisions for the purpose of improving category performance.
  • Communicate and work effectively with the procurement team to achieve overall targets.
  • Under the direction of the Category Development Manager, develop all category objectives and financial budgets for their centre store categories. Responsible for execution and achievement of category financial plans.
  • Work with, and leverage the supplier community category expertise to assist in all areas of the category management process.
  • The successful candidate will have a University degree in Marketing or General Business and 3 to 5 years of category management experience in the food industry.
