Family Counsellor

1 FTE (35 hrs/week) – Permanent

.8 FTE (28 hrs/week) – temporary maternity leave starting October 2018

Family Centre is a community-based, not-for-profit organization that provides families in Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta with caring and respectful family support. This is done through a comprehensive range of prevention and early intervention services for children, youth, adults, parents and other family members. Family Centre is recognized as a Government of Alberta Parent Link Centre. Its services include information and referrals, early childhood education, parent education, family support programs and counselling.

Family Counsellors work within a multi-disciplinary, growth-oriented team that is committed to making a difference in the lives of our clients and our community. Family Counsellors provide counselling to individuals, youth, couples and families, along with group facilitation in the areas of youth, parenting, and family support. Family Counsellors work 2 evening shifts/week (1:00pm – 9:00pm) and the rest day shifts (8:30am – 4:30pm) with a 1 hour unpaid break.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Two years of counselling experience post-graduate degree (Master of Education, Counselling Psychology, Master of Social Work, Master of Counselling, or equivalent)
• Must be a member in good standing with a professional association and have, or be able to obtain, liability insurance
• Knowledge and experience in the areas of family dynamics, parenting, separation/divorce, family and relationship conflict, child development and resiliency
• Working knowledge of local community resources and experience with providing appropriate referrals to individuals in need
• Ability to network and build working relationships with other individuals and agencies
• Computer skills and literacy
• Current Standard First Aid & CPR Certificate (within the past 3 years)
• Current Suicide Intervention Training Certificate
• Alberta Children’s Services Intervention Record Check (within 6 months)
• Police Record Check vulnerable sector (within 6 months)
