Primary Focus

As part of the Business Applications Services Team, the Systems Specialist (SS) brings technical understanding of the technologies and applications that support the Pipeline Operations business area.

The SS performs research, analysis, and development on any new business requirements or reported problems related to the computer systems they have responsibility for. The SS plans, proposes and delivers detailed technical solutions and specifications, advocates software or hardware components. The SS is responsible for design and development of analytic models in conjunction with external partners and internal analytical teams. Responsibilities include continuous analysis, design, and development as the business, processes and technologies evolve. This position will join existing team members in the ownership of business support applications and critical service delivery. The analyst’s focus will be to ensure the ongoing success of the Pipeline Integrity, Control Center Operations, Pipeline Control Systems and Leak Detection client business areas. Specific Accountabilities The Systems Specialist (SS) is responsible for providing technical expertise and support for complex business systems. Design and develop technical solutions Oversees small delivery team, provide mentorship, and coaching in order to foster an enabling and empowering work environment; Accountable for to design both high level and detailed technical solutions with the ability to become a part of the development team; Accountable to lead escalated incidents and problem management tasks as they pertain to applications by ensuring incident and problem escalations from various business areas are resolved quickly and effectively; Responsible for technical design, development, implementation, and support of Business Applications Services applications; Responsible to ensure proper design principles are maintained so that non-functional requirements such as performance, scalability, availability, reliability and security are appropriately addressed; Responsible for communication cross multi dispensary teams and/or business units; Responsible for accuracy of estimated packages of work and lead other team members through the process Supports software application developers and other project resources defining specific solution components with technical issues and decisions consistent with architecture standards and plans; Supports ongoing appraisal of developments in technology and application systems and assess how these will impact our products, business and architecture strategy; Communicate effectively and frequently with business, be responsive and available to business concerns, issues, feedback, and questions. Translate business requirements into functional technical specification/use cases: Working with the BA, translate business requirements to technical solutions Prepare detailed technical specification in the format and level of detail prescribed by the contract Analyze software problems, data issues and workflows and recommend solutions. The SS is familiar with multiple approaches to problem solving and will choose the most appropriate one. Coordinate with BA’s, other internal IT resources where required to resolve technical issues Participate in the ongoing refinement of architectural system design and support standards and processes Leverage experience to identify opportunities to improve business effectiveness through technology C oordinate application development and problem solving with Outsource Delivery Manager (ODM) to ensure business requirements are met Reporting: Works with all stakeholders, provide accurate consolidated status reports and ensure escalation of issues as necessary Ensures services levels are being met and constantly evaluates opportunities to improve Ensures presentation of information to management is professional, timely and accurate Engage with Vendors and Business at senior levels in the organization to translate business IT initiatives into strategic IT solutions Qualifications Bachelors degree or diploma in Computer Science or related discipline Six to eight years of relevant experience in an IT development organization 2+ years of experience in software development 2+ years as Systems Analyst Fluent with technology implementation life cycle Expert knowledge of Excel, Word and PowerPoint Microsoft office products Excel Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) development experience required Proficient using .Net Framework with practical development experience required Proficient using SharePoint 2013 with practical development is an asset Practical experience using Microsoft SQL Server, SSRS, and PowerBI is asset Programing experience in Python, C#, and SQL is an asset Knowledge of Bootstrap and JavaScript frameworks (Angular JS preferred) is an asset Knowledge with Azure, GIT, and Octopus Deploy is an asset Communication – ability to listen and articulate ideas verbally and in written formats to a highly technical and non-technical audiences; ability to ask probing questions and deliver technical presentations that have impact. Analysis – Well developed analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, leveraging both logic and creativity; strong troubleshooting skills; ability to identify patterns and generate ideas. Collaboration – ability to work well with others and build strong team dynamics; open-mindedness; strong interpersonal skills; ability work with technical resources across time zones. Customer orientation – ability to constantly challenge the business’ technical solutions to deliver increasing value in performance, features, cost.
