Primary Focus

As part of the Business Applications Services Team, the Sr. Systems Analyst (SA) brings technical understanding of the technologies and applications that support the Pipeline Operations business area.

The SA performs development, research and analysis on any new business requirements or reported problems related to Pipeline Integrity and Control System applications. The SA plans, proposes, executes, and delivers functional applications with detailed technical solutions and specifications. The SA advocates software or hardware components to application they designed and/or developed.

This position will join existing team members in the ownership of business support applications and critical service delivery. The analyst’s focus will be to ensure the ongoing success of the Pipeline Integrity, Control Center Operations, Pipeline Control Systems and Leak Detection client business areas. Responsibilities include continuous development, analysis, and design as the business, processes and technologies evolve.

Specific Accountabilities

The Systems Analyst (SA) is responsible for providing technical expertise and support for complex business systems.

Design and develop technical solutions:

  • Oversees small delivery team providing leadership, mentorship, and coaching in order to foster an enabling and empowering work environment
  • Accountable for the technical development and solutions for Business Applications Services. This will include:
    • An active participant in development, testing and quality assurance of applications including transition to operational support
    • Actively participate in implementation(s) across multi dispensary teams and/or business units
    • Perform development tasks where required
    • Perform and/or creates User Acceptance Testing for all deliverables throughout product lifecycle
    • Participate in the development and maintenance of standards, policies and procedures related to applications
  • Accountable for incident and problem management by ensuring incident and problem escalations from various business areas are resolved quickly and effectively:
    • Primary point of contact for client issues and ensure status updates of incidents and problems are communicated to the business design
    • Is the escalation point of contact for application break/fix support and development
  • Designs both high level and detailed technical solutions with the ability to become a part of the development team

Translate business requirements into functional technical specification/use cases:

  • Working with the BA, translate business requirements to technical solutions
  • Prepare fit for purpose technical specifications in the format and level of detail required for an agile delivery model
  • Analyze software problems, data issues and workflows – recommends and actions solutions
  • Continual service improvement by documenting solutions and operating procedures
  • Coordinate with BA’s, and other internal IT where required to resolve technical issues
  • Participate in the ongoing refinement of architectural system design and support standards and processes
  • Leverage experience to identify opportunities to improve business effectiveness through technology
  • Coaching and mentoring and governing systems analysts with less experience
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks in a fast paced environment
  • Interpersonal and client-handling skills with the ability to manage expectations and explain technical detail

Reporting:

  • Works with all stakeholders, provide accurate consolidated status reports and ensure escalation of issues as necessary
  • Ensures services levels are being met and constantly evaluates opportunities to improve
  • Ensures presentation of information to management is professional, timely and accurate
  • Engage with Vendors and Business at senior levels in the organization to translate business IT initiatives into strategic IT solutions

Qualifications

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • A university degree or diploma in Computing Science, Computer Engineering or related discipline is preferred
  • 7+ years total experience in an IT development organization
  • 3+ years of experience in an SA or similar role
  • 3+ years related work experience in application development
  • Strong understanding of .Net Framework: ASP.NET, C# and SQL with practical development experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of JavaScript frameworks (Angular preferred)
  • Proven experience building and consuming RESTful web services
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with an aptitude for problem solving are required
  • Experience using version control software (Git preferred)

Ideal Qualifications / Experience

  • Oil and Gas experience or knowledge or Pipeline Integrity business lifecycle
  • Broad knowledge of computer systems technology, programming and design techniques
  • Technical background and aptitude is required with a demonstrated ability to understand technical applications
  • Familiarity with DevOps and/or Agile software development is an asset
  • Experience developing user interface for automated analysis, automation of data collection and data handling
  • Understanding of Object Oriented concepts, and design patterns
  • Excellent customer service attitude, oral and written communication, analytical, and problem solving skills.
