Reporting to the Manager, Internal Audit, you will be responsible for carrying out Internal Audit services for Emera Inc. and its subsidiaries. Emera invests in electricity generation, transmission and distribution as well as gas transmission and utility energy services. The company is focused on transforming the electricity industry through cleaner generation and the delivery of clean energy to market. Headquartered in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Emera has investments throughout northeastern North America and the Caribbean.

Accountabilities:

As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for planning and executing various risk-based financial, operational and regulatory audits; evaluating the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls to mitigate risks and/or assess compliance with corporate policies and procedures, laws and regulations. Your responsibility for each audit will extend from pre-planning engagements, to reporting and communicating results to all levels of management as well as monitoring remediation progress. In addition, you will also provide advisory services related t0 risk, control and corporate governance.

You are an innovative, critical thinker with a customer-focused strategy and will strive to continually improve the quality of our audit activities as well as enhance Emera’s overall control environment. You are comfortable with processes that are financial in nature including, but not limited to, treasury, capital, derivatives, financial modeling, etc. Your strong problem-solving abilities allow you to quickly assess a situation, evaluate options and adjust your approach to any engagement.

You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of your co-workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. In addition, this role is also responsible for managing the team’s Safety Program.

Skills, Capabilities and Experience:

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA – CA, CGA, and/or CMA) and commitment to obtaining an auditing designation (CIA, CISA, CFE and/or CRMA);
  • Minimum of six years’ business/finance experience with at least two years’ experience in an auditing, risk and control environment;
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong analytical skills and broad business acumen;
  • Solid critical and strategic thinking abilities;
  • Ability to build and maintain effective business relationships;
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm, initiative and a strong commitment to professional development;
  • Experience supporting NI 52-109/SOx ICFR compliance programs would be considered an asset;
  • Experience with data analytics and CAAT’s (computer assisted auditing techniques) would also be considered an asset.
