The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 1928 and Nova Scotia Power Labour Pool was formed through contract negotiations in 1993 and began operation in September 1996. Today, the Labour Pool provides a safe, competent, flexible and cost effective casual work force to NS Power’s five thermal plants, hydro production, field operations, transmission maintenance, procurement and meter services. The Labour Pool consists of a formal rotation list of qualified trades and non-trades members throughout the province. Members of the Labour Pool are an integral part of NS Power operations and can be employed for various periods of time. The NSP/IBEW Labour Pool is current recruiting candidates for the C file Labour Pool in the classification of Electrician (Term until June 30, 2016)
Accountabilities : As a member of the Central Customer Operations (Underground) team, you will perform all aspects of installation, commissioning, maintenance and repair of electrical plant on the Transmission/Distribution System (e.g. reclosers, breakers, transformers, controls, underground power systems, switches, communication system, etc.) You may be required to travel to other Nova Scotia Power sites throughout the province as required.
You will be required to participate in regulatory training and be willing to participate in on-the-job training or training programs that support the development of additional skills.
You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of co-workers by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.
This position is considered a safety sensitive position. As such, the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.
Your primary residence must be located within 30 minutes of headquarters and you will be available for after hour emergency service restoration, including rotational standby duty if required.
Skills, Capabilities and Experience: Certification as a Journeyperson Industrial Electrician with a minimum of two (2) years experience with troubleshooting electrical equipment is required. Consideration may be given to those individuals who hold Certification as a Construction Electrician. You have proven problem resolution skills and the flexibility and ability to adapt to rescheduled assignments. You must be a strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills, a strong computer aptitude and the ability to deal with multiple tasks and demands. Previous experience with Transmission/Distribution systems is an asset. You must hold a valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License with a minimum of 2 years driving experience and provide a driver’s abstract satisfactory to NSPI.
Consideration may be given to members of an Industrial Electrician Apprenticeship program if no qualified candidates apply.
