Accountabilities:

Reporting to the Manager of Analytics, the successful candidate will perform financial and statistical analysis and modeling supporting Emera Energy’s asset management, gas and power origination and trading teams along with contributing to business development projects.

Other accountabilities include:

  • Maintain, monitor, interpret and report on market conditions and factors affecting near term physical and financial natural gas and power prices in support of natural gas and power trading and origination.
  • Monitoring and interpreting industry periodicals, publications, and news affecting Emera Energy’s operating and business strategy on a daily basis.
  • Developing and applying complex physical and financial asset valuation models to support trading, origination, asset management, and business development units.
  • Modeling and reporting on Emera Energy’s mark to market exposure to complex financial derivatives.
  • Performs ad hoc statistical analysis of market developments and interprets, disseminates the results within Emera Energy.

Skills, Capabilities and Experience:

The successful candidate will hold an undergraduate degree in a quantitative field (preference will be given to Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Economics or Finance degrees). Preference will be given to candidates with graduate degrees in quantitative fields or enrollment in or completion of the CFA designation.

Strong analytical and organizational skills are required. You demonstrate strong relationship and communication skills as well as excellent multi-tasking abilities. You thrive in a fast paced environment while managing tight timelines and moderate stress. You pay close attention to details. You must possess an open mind and be flexible in adapting to change as well as be a strong team player. Trustworthiness and personal integrity is a must. Preferred candidates will have an understanding of North American natural gas and power markets, both physical and financial. You must be willing and able to gain an expert understanding of the North East natural gas and power markets in particular.

Proficiency with Excel and programming in Visual Basic for Applications is required. Experience with MATLAB, and Python are preferred. You have an understanding of econometric/financial time series modeling related to the energy industry and can apply this to pricing assets.

Reports to: Manager, Analytics
