Do you want a rewarding and challenging career helping young people? Do you enjoy working in a team environment? If so Elk Island Child & Youth Ranch is currently looking for a Behaviour Specialist Manager to work with the Treatment Team and at risk boys aged 10-24 years old.

The Clinician will work with clients who exhibit challenging behaviours related to Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Oppositional Defiance Disorder, Reactive Attachment Disorder, Autism, Tourettes syndrome or other developmental delays. They will assess a youths behaviour using standardized developmental tests and observation. They will design behavioural skills teaching or intervention programs to discourage negative behaviours and promote positive ones. The Clinician will also provide advice and support to staff and the Treatment Team in managing a youths behaviour, provide training sessions for staff development and provide input into the policies around programming provided.

The Clinician will work with Shift Leaders and the Program Manager and will report directly to the Director.

Wage to be negotiated based on education and experience

Elk Island Child & Youth Ranch is located 40 minutes east of Edmonton, 20 minutes east of Fort Saskatchewan in Lamont, Alberta. Please consider the travel distance before applying.

Qualifications

Must be trained to a Masters level or higher and is currently registered with their college(i.e. Psychology, Occupational Therapy or Social Work), or be under the direction of a registered/chartered professional at the clinician expense. The Clinician shall specialize in the psychological, emotional and/or psycho/social treatment of youth (must have a clinical specialization identified as part of their registration). The Clinician must hold liability insurance which is the clinicians financial responsibility. Documentation must be provided to support these credentials. A copy of insurance must be provided and updated annually to the Office Manager.

Preference will be given to individuals who are Registered and have a strong knowledge and understanding of trauma informed practice within child development

Your Duties will include:

  • Provide each of the youth with weekly to bi-weekly observation sessions-this will include individual, group and/or family. This will be on-site or on a recreational outing.
  • Implement Recommendations following treatment models in collaboration with Program Manager and Shift Leaders utilizing the Positive Restrictive Procedures format, applied behaviour analysis and Treatment plans.
  • Assistance in the movement from behaviour modification practices to trauma informed practices, providing solutions that support this move, bring forward and addressing challenges with staff to assist their learning.
  • Developing and implementing various tracking methods with each individual youth that can be used in evaluating approaches, medications and other situations that may affect the youths behavior.
  • Participate in developing frontline staff in the strategies and techniques to be used with our youth through structured and intentional training sessions in collaboration with the Program Manager and Director. Ensuring language used in training is simple and understandable to our frontline team.
  • Attend Treatment Team Meetings and Ranch Meetings to create congruency in treatment for our youth.
  • Participate in case conferences and provide quarterly reports as required on each youth- as well as any other documentation to caseworkers, legal guardians and other professionals that advocates for the needs of our youth.
  • Participating in the development of the treatment plan and summary report that are individualized to the needs of youth utilizing best practices and treatment models that align with the agencies vision and values.
  • Provide support and clinical feedback for the overall development of programs, areas for improvement, ideas for training, etc.
  • Positively supporting EICYR as an agency in the community and working collaboratively with other professionals.
  • Ensure all promises or commitments to the youth are followed through with. Communicating openly with the treatment team to ensure information that’s being given that could affect the emotional state of the youth is discussed as a team prior and presented in the most effective manner.
  • Supporting the common goal of the agency as well the team to best approach each individual youth.
  • Bring forward challenges regarding youth rights, ethical issues and other concerns to the Director to discuss them as well as come up with a solution to address them in an effective manner.
  • Follow direction that’s been made by the treatment team unless otherwise stated by the Director.
  • Use positive, strength based language when communicating with all employees of Elk Island Child and Youth Ranch and reporting concerns to the Director.
  • Providing input into the creation of policies in collaboration with the Director.
  • Providing debriefing to youth and staff following a serious situation or crisis
  • Provide support to frontline staff during a crisis situation if a crisis situation occurs while on-site.
