Reporting to the Supervisor, Pension and Benefits, the successful candidate for this full-time, permanent position will assist in the coordination of bi-weekly and monthly operations within the pension and benefits unit.

ABOUT YOUR EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • a diploma in Business Administration or a related field
  • a minimum of four years of experience with benefits and pensions in a complex computerized environment
  • experience working in a unionized environment with multiple collective agreements and terms and conditions of employment
  • current knowledge of changes to pension and benefits plans, pension plan policies, legislation and procedures
  • excellent communication, analytical and time management skills, and an aptitude for math/financial concepts
  • proficiency with MS Office, Google Apps, and PeopleSoft

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Responsibilities include:

  • coordinating the processing and maintenance of benefit and pension records and training and overseeing staff who perform this work
  • enrolling, changing and terminating benefit and pension plans provided to District staff, ensuring internal and external deadlines are met
  • liaising with Alberta School Employee Benefits Plan (ASEBP) on staff eligibility to access benefits and with Alberta Pensions Services (APS) regarding Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP)
  • performing complex calculations, analyzing information and resolving issues and discrepancies with ASEBP and LAPP
  • calculating and reconciling Health Spending Accounts for all staff groups
  • ensuring correct coverage and payroll deductions for benefits in accordance with contractual provisions, policies, regulations and collective agreements
  • drafting and recommending changes to benefit procedures and business processes
  • assisting the Supervisor with analyzing, testing and implementing system upgrades
  • assisting with the preparation of pension year-end reports
  • providing high-level customer service to all stakeholders
