Background:

Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers (EMCN) is looking for two (2) mature individuals to work as Managers at either of its site locations (i) Welcome Centre for Immigrants in Millwoods; and (ii) West-End Community Connections in West-end.

Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers (EMCN) has been active in Edmonton since 1981 and works with individuals of all ages and families coming to Edmonton from every part of the world. The majority of those people are sponsored refugees, landed immigrants who have been in Canada five years or less but also included are people who have become citizens, refugee claimants and visitors. In a year, we serve individuals and families from more than 100 places of origin. Services are available in both official languages and in about 30 other languages.

Position Overview:

The Site Manager is responsible for working with Program Managers to ensure program outputs and outcomes are exceeding set targets as well as providing strategic and operational leadership in the day to day management of each programs at the site. He or she will also be tasked with establishing and maintaining a safe, legally compliant workplace, and enforcing compliance with all Agency’s policies and procedures. In addition to Site Management, he or she may be responsible for one or more programs.

Key Responsibilities :

There are two overarching areas overseen by the Manager’s position:

Program operations

  • Supervise staff activities and monitor staff schedules, time sheets, personal and health leave.
  • Attend committee meetings (eg. administration, ELT, other)
  • Participate in Senior Leadership Team meetings
  • Coordination and chair of monthly site meetings
  • Participate in department recruitment and selection activity
  • Conduct annual Staff performance reflections
  • Perform quality assurance of work done by program staff at the site through periodic monitoring and coaching
  • Compile monthly, quarterly and annual statistical and narrative reports. This includes the monitoring and verification of client data entered into the agency NewOrg database
  • Keep informed about program offerings of other agencies, institutions, etc.
  • Participate in research and planning for new service delivery initiatives.
  • Support outreach activities of the agency
  • Respond to requests from service providers (Immigrant agencies, LINC Schools, Churches, Community agencies, Libraries, etc.) who request employment clinics, workshops and in-services
  • Tracks number of meetings, workshops, information sessions, participants, and completes monthly narrative reports on outreach activities
  • Follows budget and ensures purchasing is up-to-date and does not exceed budget
  • Works with the Manager of Accounting to track budgets and create amendments or new contracts as required
  • Assists in proposal writing as required
  • Other responsibilities that may arise*

  • Overseeing the logistics and day-to-day operations of the site
  • Works with the landlord to ensure proper operation of all things plumbing and electrical
  • Signs off on all required services

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • University degree or equivalent
  • Five years of experience in the not-for-profit or government sector, preferably in management
  • A comprehensive knowledge of the immigration system
  • Experience in cross-sector partnerships
  • Knowledge and experience of immigrant and refugee communities, particularly their settlement experience
  • Understanding of poverty, racism, and marginalization and how it affects those EMCN serves
  • Experience adapting leadership and communication styles in a multicultural environment
