We are currently recruiting for a dynamic and motivated individual to join the Easter Seals team on a one-year contract in the leadership role of:

Manager, Annual Giving
(one-year maternity/parental leave contract)

Anticipated Start Date: September 14, 2015

Reporting to the President and CEO, this position is responsible for the complete scope of direct mail, on-line giving, monthly donor, leadership giving, face-to-face canvassing, and stewardship programs for Easter Seals Ontario.

This position is responsible for creating, monitoring and implementing the annual plan and budget for these important fundraising initiatives. This position supervises the Direct Mail Customer Service Representative. This is a key role as it works closely with colleagues within the Development, Services, Communications, IT and Finance teams in order to:

Grow direct mail, on-line, and face-to-face canvassing donations (both in total volume of donors and in dollars raised from existing donors) to meet and/or exceed department goals for fundraising, donor, and prospect relationships and recognition.

Identify clients to feature in compelling, original direct mail/online giving solicitations

Writing/overseeing creative direction of all annual campaign materials (direct mail letters, scripts, emails, video content, some social media and web content development as well).

Ensure and maintain data integrity in accordance with department and organization policies and procedures.

Manage budget and accurate financial reporting

Oversee the solicitation and stewardship/follow up of our leadership giving group as well as monthly donor program (which includes a street canvassing campaign as well as mailed solicitation and follow up).

Manage the relationship with key donors to the organization’s Scholarship program

Develop and implement online methods of giving through email campaigns and social media.

Working with Communications and internal and external stakeholders to show measurable improvements.

Track trends among donors; encourage philanthropic support among Direct Mail donors, minimize donor attrition and attract new sources of support.

Stewardship and Recognition of Donors as required with a focus on up-cycling annual givers to a leadership gift and eventually toward a planned giving program (including oversight of the donor recognition pin program).

Oversee data entry and customer service to ensure timely and accurate processing, coding acknowledgement, fulfillment and reporting of all solicitations, pledges and donations

Coordinate with other parts of the Development program to identify and refer prospects for special events, and planned gifts for follow up.

Manage – in a “hands-on manner” data and donor acquisitions (mailing lists, face-to-face street canvassing program, etc.)

Extract and prepare mailing and gift data for all donor communications. Partnering with other staff and Blackbaud to facilitate and execute large-scale data transfers as necessary.

Working closely with Finance and Development Departments to ensure accuracy and consistency between department reports by producing monthly, annual and one-off analyses of donor and donation progress towards goals and preparing daily, monthly, annual and one-off financial reconciliation reports on a timely basis


Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field preferred.

Minimum 5 years database administration in a nonprofit development office setting, including advanced proficiency (2 or more years) with Blackbaud’s The Raiser’s Edge required or comparable system required.

Proven direct mail writing skills and exceptional communication abilities required.

Vendor management experience required, specifically with gift fulfillment vendor (Cornerstone), Canada Post, designers and printers etc.

Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office and PC applications is required. Familiarity with Crystal reports (or similar report writing software).

Direct supervisory experience preferred.

Excellent interpersonal skills and a comfort level in interacting with major donors.

Strong understanding of the role of data in the fund-raising process.

Excellent skills in gathering, analyzing and interpreting data.

Demonstrated project management and decision-making ability coupled with strong time-management and prioritization skills.

Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.

Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with internal and external constituents.

Ability to build and lead a strong, highly functioning team; desire to work as part of an interdisciplinary team to meet the needs of internal and external customers.

Superb attention to detail and ability to create, follow, and monitor processes and procedures from beginning to end within established time frames.
