Position Overview:

To ensure optimal condition of the site by managing a maintenance organization and maintenance costs to maximize the availability of the production facilities, improve reliability, maintaining facilities and grounds, with a focus on predictive and preventative maintenance at minimum costs. Carries out job in compliance with corporate requirements, business group plan, engineering standards, and relevant laws and regulations. Oversee site services which include onsite contractors and MRO to ensure services and contracts support the needs of the site. Support the site policy as a member of the Site Management Team.

Site characteristics and dynamics:

DNP M&T Mulgrave Site is a multi-plant site in which the following processes and technologies are operated in the production of fish oil:

  • Winterization
  • Steam Deoderization
  • Bleaching
  • Drumming
  • Concentration
  • Ethylation

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to ensure the success and improvement of the maintenance work process to ensure limited or no downtime or interruptions to production
  • Lead the establishment of goals, objectives and key performance measures and drive continuous improvement activities to achieve established goals including a preventative and predictive maintenance plan (PPM).
  • Manage adherence to operating and capital budgets and change management policies consistent with corporate and global competitive requirements.
  • Review industry best practices to identify and evaluate new technology that may provide process and productivity improvements.
  • Ensure that team members receive appropriate education and training to meet the capability requirements of their job.
  • Member of the Site Management Team, shares process related information to leverage best practices and participates in site related management activities.
  • Contribute to the manufacturing plan to integrate into site activities.
  • Works closely with the Improve Plant team to upgrade current technologies or to implement new technology.
  • Manage maintenance activities in safe and environmentally acceptable manner.
  • Implement actions from SHE plan and ensure compliance.
  • Implement/Monitor contractor safety including adherence to safe work permits system
  • Enforce management of change procedures
  • Sustain a trained workforce
  • Execute JSA, incident investigation, critical equipment inspection compliance including over dues.
  • Develop department KPIs
  • Member of DNP Maintenance and Reliability network
  • SHE Duties & Responsibilities: Display and promote positive safety behaviors at all times; use proper personal protective equipment, appropriate safety tools, equipment and procedures to ensure that self and others go home safe each day; that area and equipment operate at the highest safety levels; that all people in the area ( maintenance techs, quality personnel, visitors, contractors, etc.) comply with safety directives and keep the area neat and clean.
  • Responsible for all affected employees and contractors that are involved in working at heights. Trained and competent person to assure proper use and make recommendations for tying off correctly and properly.
  • Accountable for the department following the Life Saving Rules and ensuring maintenance technicians have understanding of each rule.
  • Involvement in setting up and reviewing SHE requirements, procedures, and communication with all in the project the jobholder is responsible for.
  • Acts in such a way that safety awareness & accident prevention are considered in performing all tasks.
  • Shows leadership by working to SHE standards and encouraging employees to work to the same standards.
  • Completes all required safety classes (e.g., CBT’s , learn and test on compass, lockout – tag out, confined space and RCSM.
  • Supports plant and corporate initiatives as outlined in the manufacturing plan. Follows the manufex work processes.
  • Shows leadership by working to SHE standards and encouraging colleagues to work to the same standards
  • Displays and promotes positive safety behaviors at all times; uses proper personal protective equipment, appropriate safety tools, equipment and procedures to ensure that self and others go home safe each day; that area and equipment operate at the highest safety levels; that all people in the area comply with the safety directives and keep the area neat and clean.
  • Follows all SHE instructions and procedures to include ensuring awareness of and following all DSM Life Saving Rules. Acts in such a way that safety awareness and accident prevention are considered in performing all tasks.
  • Ensures that all personal safety, quality and assigned training is up to date and in compliance.
  • Ensures that the competences of the employees are sufficient to let them perform their task in a SHE responsible way. Ensures that all direct reports’ safety, quality and assigned training is up to date and in compliance.
  • Supports and follows the policy of reporting incidents, near misses and improvement possibilities.
  • Ensures Quality procedures, Management Directives and Quality improvement projects are supported and followed.
  • Reports any quality deviations or non-conformances observed.
  • Supports routine Quality talks/briefings with staff to raise Quality awareness.

Knowledge and Educational Level:

  • Possession of Engineering degree from an accredited college or university with major work in Engineering or closely related field (focus in mechanical engineering preferred).
  • Technical knowledge to perform responsibilities with minimal supervision required. Good math, oral/written communication, interpersonal, coaching skills, trouble shooting, participative leadership, time management, statistical process control and problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of personal/process control computers SAP. TPM, GMPs, ISO, and regulatory compliance.

Required Level of Experience:

  • Five years hands on management in a manufacturing environment managing teams of people, leading and embracing change
  • Demonstrated experience ensuring compliance to safe work systems like (hot work) permit, confined space entry, lock out, tag out, try out (LOTOTO), job safety analysis (JSA)
  • Knowledge and experience with maintenance ERP-system (SAP)
  • Demonstrated experience in the achievement of operational efficiency improvement and improvement of maintenance work processes
  • Proven experience implementing preventive and predictive maintenance plans (PPM)
