Reporting to the Steering Committee for the Bachelor of Performing Arts (BPA) program, through the Dean of the Faculty of Language, Literature and Performing Arts (Douglas College), this position provides leadership to the BPA program: facilitating its operation, planning and development; representing the program, its faculty members and students as required, including on committees and via correspondence; liaising on behalf of the smooth functioning of the program, as needed, with other performing arts disciplines within the Faculty of LLPA and with other units at both Douglas College and Capilano University.

Responsibilities:
For the BPA program, you will ensure the production and timely dissemination of promotional information; host information and recruitment sessions; liaise with marketing, advising and admissions staff at the two partner institutions; respond to student queries and advise students on qualifying course selection; oversee the selection of qualified student applicants; be available to serve on faculty hiring committees for BPA faculty positions, as needed; schedule and staff BPA courses; oversee the effective delivery of the program, by maintaining the currency of curriculum and by supporting the instructional team; report on program operations, regularly and as required, to the BPA Steering Committee or its delegate.

The position involves liaising with other programs at both partner institutions: the successful applicant may be required to travel as needed to both of these institutions, to travel as needed to the site of the program’s final production, in January, and, during the remaining months of program delivery (November and December), maintain an appropriate-level presence on the campus of the host institution (currently, Douglas’ New Westminster campus).

The successful applicant will also represent the BPA throughout the post-secondary system, for the purposes of recruitment and of establishing articulation and transfer pathway opportunities for students.

To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need:
* a graduate degree in a performing arts discipline or arts administration, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience in the performing arts industry;

* an understanding of credit performing arts programming and institutional processes in the BC post-secondary system;

* an established network of contacts within the performing arts communities in the Lower Mainland; and

* strong interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills, and a demonstrated ability to work effectively in groups, to set priorities and to meet deadlines.

NOTE: Successful post-secondary teaching experience in a performing arts program will be considered an asset; a successful applicant with such experience may also be eligible to apply to teach in the BPA program, subject to work availability.

Capilano University and Douglas College are jointly seeking a Special Appointee: Project Manager to oversee and support the interdisciplinary, entrepreneurial Bachelor of Performing Arts (BPA) degree-completion program. This is a one-section release position open to qualified applicants for a four-month term of appointment, 1st November 2017 – 28th February 2018. The BPA program is a nine-month capstone program running each year, May through January. The current opportunity is for a Special Appointee to oversee the final four months of the 2017 – 2018 intake.

The position may be renewed, subject to budget/enrolment, for the May 2018 – February 2019 intake, with a total 2.0 section release time.
