Position Overview:

The Research Scientist, Polymer is an individual with experience in microbial fermentation and cell preservation techniques such lyophilization, spray drying, and microencapsulation. You will join a unique blend of consumer goods experts and scientists to assist in the development and improvement of commercial probiotic products with extended shelf-life. This is a new position with DoseBiome, a Canadian-based biotechnology startup and will be located within the MaRS Discovery District. The successful candidate will be part of a team responsible for formulating stable and viable commercial probiotic products within a collaborative, fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Mandatory Qualifications:

  • PhD in Polymer Chemistry, Biochemistry or related fields.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of natural polymers, including biocompatibility, structure property relationships and polymer processing and characterization technologies.
  • Experience with formulation process technologies such as freeze-drying, spray drying, microencapsulation, with specific application to stabilizing bacteria.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, scaling-up, and transferring technology from R&D to commercialization.
  • Proven understanding of US, Canada, and EU regulations and requirements for microbial products.
  • Experience in growing and handling microbial culture.
  • Experience in developing robust formulation and prototypes for both liquid and solid oral dosage forms for consumer testing.
  • Experience in carrying out stability studies for new microencapsulated products and reference materials.
  • Expertise in consumer testing along with formulation adjustments to optimize for efficacy and consumer uptake.
  • Must be available for domestic/international travel as required.
  • Industry experience considered an asset
