Position Overview
The West Vancouver Memorial Library has an immediate opening for a permanent, part-time Library Assistant V. This position exercises considerable independent judgement in coordinating and promoting a number of programs, activities, and special events for the Library.

Responsibilities

The position will be responsible for:

  • Liaising and establishing effective relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to assess library specific needs and promote events and programs;
  • Recruiting, selecting, and overseeing contractors to create an annual calendar of events;
  • Coordinating the logistics for library events including staffing, scheduling, catering, and processing payments for exhibitors;
  • Creating and posting public relations materials for library events and programs including print and online content for local publications, social media, and the web;
  • May provide assistance and information to the public at the Information Desk; and,
  • Other related duties as required.

Requirements
This Library Assistant V position has primary responsibility for the art and music portfolio and the portfolio may change over time. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate knowledge, skills and abilities in cultural arts programming.

The successful candidate will possess: a diploma in event coordination and management or a related field; considerable knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices related to community programs and special events; the ability to plan and implement community programs; experience working using automated computer systems including website and social media content management systems; ability to work independently and as part of a team; ability to deal tactfully, courteously and effectively with people of all ages and other employees; excellent oral and written communication skills and solid organizational skills. A bachelor’s degree in a related field would be considered an asset.
