Role Summary

The Director, Organizational Health, reporting to the AVP, Practice Excellence and Innovation is accountable for the performance and service delivery of our organizational health mandate, focused on supporting our Group Life & Disability clients. This focus includes; leading a team of people responsible for providing the

necessary strategic view and subject matter expertise with a focus on supporting a best practice model in prevention, early intervention, casual absence and disability management for our valued clients. The Director is the key business leader accountable for establishing, negotiating, and strengthening ongoing relationships with Business Development, Disability representatives, clients and key stakeholders to support and align with our business strategy and plan. Success in this role will be defined through the establishment of effective processes for engaging, supporting and managing internal and external stakeholders, while delivering on our client-focused value proposition.

The incumbent is accountable for the overall direction, performance, delivery, staffing, continuous improvement, management and all other aspects of the team of Organizational Health Consultants. The role requires a strong subject-matter expert in disability management, with an outcome focused orientation as well as considerable leadership acumen.

Key Accountabilities include:
Strategic planning – ensure that a long term organizational health management plan exists aligned with the broader Life and Disability business plan to strategically grow the business while supporting and retaining our valued clients

Implementation & Execution – manage all activities of related organizational health strategy execution and service delivery, setting product, marketing and resource plans, along with business targets and timelines

Issue Resolution – Effectively assess and resolve any escalations by internal stakeholders, plan sponsors or suppliers as an experienced networker, negotiator and business leader

Plan Sponsor Support – Acts in a senior consultative role to respond to specific plan sponsors questions, and escalations as a trusted advisor capable of providing consistent and superior relationship management

Build and manage internal relationships – with all key stakeholders at all levels, including senior management through exceptional leadership, business and interpersonal proficiency

Talent Management – accountable for effectively leading and developing a team of experienced professionals. Providing ongoing direction, coaching, engagement, and development aligned with the strategic direction & goal execution

Deliver Operational Excellence and continuous improvement by having and holding high expectations, defining and delivering national processes and/or best practices, and by leading the team through these change initiatives

As a leader within Group Life & Disability, you will help shape our business plans and priorities and share them with your team, the broader Group Life & Disability and with other key stakeholders as required to ensure understanding and alignment across the stakeholders

Work collaboratively with your peers and others in Group Life & Disability and across all of SLF to ensure we achieve our objectives

Provide ethical organizational health, disability and absence management expertise for our plan members and sponsor

Provide direction, coaching and performance management for development of skills, competencies and experiences for those on the team,


Exceptional presentation skills and executive presence able to demonstrate high quality communication and presentation dexterity

Exceptional ability to build and maintain strong relationships with both internal partners and external clients and advisors

Demonstrates extensive knowledge and skill gained both through deep experience and involvement in diverse practices of Disability Management and Organizational Health/Wellness promotion theory and practices

Superior influencing skills and ability to demonstrate talent in building teams that work effectively together to achieve a shared outcome

A strong results orientation with strategic focus on supporting current clients and growing the Life and Disability business

Ability to analyze complex challenges and simplify to key issues that need addressing

Effective team player within leadership team structure

Comfortable using Microsoft Office suite of products (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)

Education and Experience

University degree in Occupational Health, Disability Management, Health Administration or health related field ideally at a Masters level

Prior leadership experience (5-7 years) at a manager level or above, preferably at a national level, managing remote teams


Experience with disability research and analysis of complex data

Certification in or currently in pursuit of NIDMAR and Excellence Canada certifications at the CDMP, PEP levels

Certification as, or currently in pursuit of NIDMAR disability management auditor

Experience with large presentations at industry and conference level as a recognized thought leader is an asset.
