The Registrar’s Office in Battleford requires a highly motivated and responsible individual to uphold the dignity of the court by providing support and assistance to the Court of Queen’s Bench Judges. You will provide assistance to the legal profession, legal assistants, court runners and the general public when working in the Registry Office and will receive, process, file and issue legal documents, ensuring all documentation comply with the Rules of the Court of Saskatchewan, various federal and provincial Statues and The Canadian Criminal Code of Canada .

As a confident professional, you will be responsible for convening and adjourning court, while maintaining accurate court records, mark exhibits, swear in witnesses, operate digital recording equipment and video conferencing equipment. You will prepare documents such as exhibit lists, hearing fee sheets, digital log notes, judge’s orders and decisions. In criminal matters, you will arraign the accused and take pleas and empanel the jury. Interact and see to the needs of the Jury during the course of a trial. Following court, you will be responsible for the preparation, approval and distribution of a variety of post court documents, ensuring legislative compliance. You must accurately record judge’s decisions and respond to questions related to fiats.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of the justice system as it pertains to the various levels of court and legal terminology, Acts, regulations, policies, protocols and procedures as they apply to Queen’s Bench. The knowledge and skills would typically be acquired through experience in a court and/or legal environment. To be successful in this position you must have outstanding communication skills and exceptional organizational skills and be thorough with the ability to pay close attention to detail. You will provide assistance and information in response to general inquiries using tact and diplomacy and will determine and collect the correct fees for filing court documents with the extensive use of the Queen’s Bench database system.

As the successful candidate, you will have the ability to prioritize, organize and maintain a heavy workload so that court proceedings and related legal and office matters are conducted in a timely and accurate manner. You will be able to work independently as well as a team member as the needs of the position may require.

The successful candidate may be required to work hours that exceed past 5:00 p.m. in event that a Court matter may sit late. You must possess a valid driver’s licence as you will be required to occasionally travel to Meadow Lake, SK to clerk sittings of the Court of Queen’s Bench which will also involve overnight stays. As well, this position requires the transportation of the sequestered Jury. You will be physically fit in order to climb ladders to retrieve exhibits and files. Heavy lifting of up to 25 to 30 pounds may be required from time to time.

As the successful candidate, you must demonstrate good character in order to maintain the integrity of the justice system and the people it serves and ensure confidentiality within and outside the place of work in accordance with your Oath of Office.
