This is a skilled journeyperson level work associated with the lay-out, fabrication, repair, installation and modification of metal assemblies and advanced work in a variety of other trades associated with the repair of vehicles and related equipment carried out in the Central Transportation Region garage; performs cutting, brazing and arc welding jobs while operating manual and automatic welding equipment; diagnosis problems and makes recommendations on appropriate courses of action and performs applicable tests and inspections to verify workmanship and compliance with industry regulations and standards; may operate lathes, grinders and drill presses. Other duties as assigned.
Considerable knowledge and experience in the welding trade with knowledge of accepted trade practices, codes, and safety issues is required. Experience in various other trades associated with the repair of vehicles and related equipment; courses in vehicle body repair; mechanical repairs and machinists work would be considered an asset. Candidates should have well developed communication and interpersonal skills along with the ability to work as part of a team yet independently with minimal supervision. Sound analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot problems and suggest solutions. A willingness and ability to work with other trades, staff and occupants in compliance with established procedures and policy is required. Candidate must have a high school diploma supplemented by a Journeyperson certificate in the welding trade from a recognized post secondary institution.
